Sculptor Bill Allen and poet Fleda Brown engage in an artistic conversation between their two genres. Inspired by the completed poem, or the completed image, sculptor and poet each look for points of entry into the other's work: words, lines, objects, colors that evoke particular feelings. Fleda Brown writes, not to explain the sculpture, but to add the voice of the poem to its implications. When Bill Allen begins with a poem, he envisions what it says to him outside of language. He creates–not an illustration of the poem, but a tactile thought, a thought without words. When sculpture and poem are displayed together, the result is a dynamic interplay that pushes the limits of language and of image. How far can found items go toward articulation? How far can small words go toward making sense of our lives? Credit David Poinsett

ConTEXTure is the body of work resulting from a collaboration between poet Fleda Brown and sculptor Bill Allen. Each artist responded to the work of the other in a conversation using the language of their respective media to create over 30 companion pieces in a collection that is imaginative, playful, thoughtful, and more. This video includes images of Allen's work in his studio, readings by Brown, and reflections by each artist on the history of the project, ideas that informed their approach, and what they learned along the way on this journey of inspired creation. ConTEXTure was first exhibited at the Dennos Museum in Traverse City, MI in the spring of 2010.

This video is a quick presentation on the agile testing practice of Acceptance Test-Driven Development. The content is derived from my half-day workshop entitled 'Flipping Ice Cream Cones to Make Volcanoes.' That workshop has its origins in discussions from the ‘Chicago Agile Open Space’ user group and ‘Simple Design and Test 2013 Chicago’ – a weekend long open space conference constructed around the Extreme Programming practice of Simplicity.

In the half-day workshop I examine, in detail, ’what’ Acceptance Test-Driven Development is and where it fits in the ubiquitous Testing Quadrant.

I explain ’who’ is involved in Acceptance Test-Driven Development. And I provide a keen explanation that the ‘how’ in the title has nothing to do with tools . Instead, it is focused on ‘how’ whole teams work together to derive a shared understanding. I describe a work flow where the early definition and execution of acceptance criteria is used to guide development efforts.

                      Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
