Some of you may or may not have heard of Underwater Fluorescence, (this is not Bioluminescence which is caused by exciting plankton in the water and can be seen with the naked eye (during the night) which causes a light glow from the plankton when struck by your swishing had) Fluorescence is caused by a protein that is absorbed by hard and soft coral as well as some anemone and crabs. While in the Bahamas I spent several night dives focusing purely on what has been called "Nightsea" which requires an excitation filter at the lights output (Like a black light) to excite the florescence of different Creatures as well as an additional filter that is worn over the mask and at the entrance to the cameras lens to block all colors but those that Fluoresce. What follows is a sample of some of the photos I shot using NightSea technology. On larger reefs it is an incredibly beautiful sight to see as the entire reefs have sections that Fluoresce in small isolated sections. The catch is that you have to turn off all your lights and essentially dive with a blue light (Think Jimmy Hendricks poster in your dorm room) with a filter over your mask that darkens what light remains. It's not for everyone but the results as I'm sure you will see are nothing short of breathtaking. I had shots that literally made a tear form in my eye (Great for helping your mask clear). Like flowers, no two are the same and in this environment everything looks different and can change while you watch it. Truly AMAZING!! Enjoy:

Memory Descent: a serene aesthetic journey. Derealization is an alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems unreal. This film is an attempt to recreate that feeling. Memory Descent follows our dancer protagonist as she plummets into the ocean depths. As she sinks, she interacts with fish and octopi, but never with a surface. Down becomes up- deep sea becomes deep space. From space, Earth’s gravity begins to pull her back toward its center. She completes her uncanny loop, rocketing through the earth’s atmosphere and into the ocean once again. In this serene aesthetic journey the viewer travels with the dancer as space seamlessly morphs and bends during oscillations between sinking and falling. My first independent attempt at a 3D animation, lots of room for improvement, particularly with some of the textures, but a huge learning experience! I was heavily influenced by aquatic life, in particular bioluminescence (the natural creation of light in living things). The visual were created to accompany the track 'See it Through' by Dominic Wood and Sasha Rakhman of Sol Flare, the full track can be heard on SoundCloud.
