Biomarkers: Molecular Basis of Chronic Diseases Overview CEBR - Center of Excellence in Biotechnology Research provides advance innovate research, training, education and university-industry interaction in the all the major fields of Biotechnology. The Center is at King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and funded by the Ministry of Higher Education. Establish in 2008, the center is designed to be a center of excellence in biotechnology with intimate contributions from the centers of the regions and academic institutions from the rest of the world. It provides a meeting place where innovation, enterprise, and industrial development will germinate. The purpose of the Center is to provide a platform for biotechnology education, training and research at the interface of multiple disciplines. The programmed of the Centre are designed to create opportunities for research community and students to engage in multi-disciplinary research where they learn biotech science while integrating pharmaceuticals, medicine and science, to provide solutions for human and animal health, food, agriculture and environment technologies. The CEBR also has a strong training component, supporting many outstanding graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. Finally, the Program funds a variety of outreach efforts to facilitate the transformation of the Program's research findings to the research group and communities most concerned with hazardous substances, with the ultimate goal of improving public health. Mission To be an up-to-date, excellent quality, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary biotechnology center that supports research, education, and technology transfer and applications for the benefit of human health and agriculture. Vision Conquering new altitudes in biotechnology research, shaping biotechnology into a premier precision, to capture the imagination of youth, to inspire the next generation to acquire biotechnology, and transform society's expectations so that all citizens may appreciate the importance of biotechnology to society.

The centuries old motto ‘the dead teach the living’ adorns the doors and desks in many medical schools. Professor Vishy Mahadevan and Louise Evans, from the London Anatomy Office, provide rare insights on what happens when you donate your body to science and why individual consent is so important. The programme also touches upon the government’s proposal to switch to a system of presumed consent which will effectively mean the end to voluntary organ donation. Through interviewing the public on the streets and testing the government’s ideas, Citizen TV makers conclude, presumed consent is bad news. People, the programme suggests, are not just pieces of meat but are led by ethical considerations such as their sense of duty and generosity to others. To remain autonomous, able to make decisions about our own bodies, is surely a sign of a civilised society.

'Drawn In Light' is a film by Andrew Robinson documenting artist Joanne Berry's project 'Hijacking Natural Systems'. The year long project funded by Wellcome Trust and Arts Council England involved Jo working as a research scientist a day a week for six months in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Nottingham. During this time she collaborated with scientists Dr Nick Holliday and Tim Self on research that resulted in an academic poster presented at a scientific conference and produced visual imagery which formed the basis of a range of digital drawings, animations and illuminated artworks for exhibition. Andrew followed Jo's progress over the year to create a 20 minute documentary which is being shown as part of her exhibition at Derby Museum and Art Gallery, England, UK. from 23rd July to 30th October 2011. (This is the full length version of the film)
