team Grael left the entire fleet winning the last race by over three minutes. That type of a lead is almost unheard of, when racers are as talented as this field, coupled with the fact that the wind was blowing a steady 17 MPH with gusts into the twenties. The order of finish after seven races, scored after the one race throw out, was Lars Grael 11 points, Augie Diaz 11 points, Arthur Anosov 15 points, and World Champion, John Mac Causland 28 points, and Canadian sailor Brian Cramer 29 points.

Local sailors Dave Ivy and his son Davie Ivy, sailing against world champions and Olympic sailors, sailed into a second place finish today in race five of the seven race series. Ivy’s, members of the Lake Sunapee Yacht Club, were able to hold off all but one of the star studded field. This win allows David to fly a silver chevron on his sail, showing the world for the rest of his sailing career, that he and his crew have accomplished this achievement. Team Ivy started between the pin end and the mid-way point of the starting line. Shortly off the line they were able to tack to port and cross the fleet into clean air. All the way up the shifty windward leg they played the shifts perfectly, rounding the windward mark in second place behind Augie Diaz from Miami Florida with his Olympic crew Bruno Prada. The two boats reached to the short off set mark and jibed downwind before the third boat even reached the windward mark. On the downwind leg both boats played the shifty streaks, opening up even a further lead. The two headed to the right side of the course, on the east shore side of the lake. There they found a newly building pressure line and both boats took off as the winds increased. Diaz rounded the second windward leg in first place, Ivy in second place but he was followed by Arthur Anosov Russian born, who went even further right, Anosov rounded in a closing third place not to far behind. Diaz then opened his lead in first place but the next two boats fought with each other for two and one half miles down wind to the finish. In the last one hundred fifty yard of the race course, Arthur Anosov found a following breeze. The next few minutes must have been nail biters for team Ivy as their lead shrank. Finally the following breeze caught up to the Ivy boat and the team was able to cross the line in second place. The order of finish was Diaz. Ivy and Anosov. That pack of three was well ahead of the fleet at the end of the race.

Lake Sunapee Yacht Club - Teams of competitors have arrived. After miles of travel, boats owners have re stepped their masts and assembled their boats. Teams met the UPS truck to receive new sails. Other teams , on site for a few days , are out on the water today testing the steady 15 MPH winds from the north west. Most of the competitors hale from salt water locations and will need to adjust to the flat waters found in a fresh water lake like Lake Sunapee. A lake, surrounded by mountains, is much different from off shore ocean conditions and will require hours of training. To be successful teams must understand the unique conditions that are found in Lake Sunapee, as is the case in all Lake sailing regattas.
