First video for my video diary for my Communication Time Motion Media class at OCAD University For this assignment i had to tell a story , I took Shakespeare's Othello and defaced the first , middle and final pages of the book. For the first page i defaced it with the first line of the story, then for the middle page i defaced it with most central line and then for the last page is defaced it the story's last sentence. At the end of the video I struggle to reach the last page representing the struggle that many students with learning disabilities have when attempting to finish a book. This tells a story through another story.

Artists’ books appeal to a wide range of audiences and are an enticing attraction for library outreach. This session will focus specifically on tips and techniques for cultivating and engaging donors, administrators and other library supporters via interactions with book art and artists. Our guest presenters - a book artist and a book art gallery founder - will discuss their experiences partnering with libraries to offer meaningful, exciting, hand-on events, in order to educate key stakeholders about book art and raise support for library collections. Guest Presenters: Richard Minsky, Richard Minsky is a book artist, theorist, historian, curator, and bibliographer. In 1974 he founded the Center for Book Arts in New York City, the first organization of its kind. Yale University maintains The Richard Minsky Archive, and in 2010 mounted an exhibition of 50 years of his book art work. He is on the Internet at minsky.com. (www.minsky.com) Laura Russell, Laura Russell is the owner of 23 Sandy Gallery, a fine art gallery in Portland, Oregon presenting local and national artists working in the book and paper arts. --- --- -- ---- -- -- --- About the documentary: With 10+ hours of footage edited down to 5 minutes, the documentary is so hi-fi that makes it looks like a mini movie. Directed by Calvin Li, filmed by Kenji Wong, original background music by Alex Lo. The filming process itself took two days, the crew brought cranes and dollies and whole bunch of lighting equipment. The viewers would come across the whole book binding process, to name a few: preparation of cover book cloth, binding at a sewing frame, sewing at the spine etc. Have a peek into the sophisticated book-binding process! --- --- --- --- --- Message from Siuyuett: My deepest gratitude to Calvin Li, the Art Director, Kenji Wong, the Videographer, and Alex Lo for the wonderful original BGM of this Documentary production! Such a stylish and beautiful feature of my creative process! It took us two whole days last summer for the video-shooting, and quite few months for the editing and sound-mixing. Thank you so much for all the superb efforts, and wish it will serve as a clear demonstration of how a handmade journal is created from zero to completion. --- ---- -- --- --- --- -- About Siuyuett: Stitches fastened, knots at spine.Needle and thread travel through paper piles. Siuyuett (Teresa Tsang) sees book-binding a way to untangle the knots in her mind where memories and emotions intertwined. Soothing and warming the cloth case is to the hands as the process to the soul. She draws inspiration from everyday objects turning ordinary elements into binding materials and creates notebooks that are one of a kind. Others see great talents and creativity revealed by the graceful hands. She extended her interest into a career as a full-time book-binding artist in 2009 and started conducting workshop sessions in the same year to share her passion and skills with those who also love the craft. She believes that everyone has an artist buried in the soul. One just needs to act upon the chance and let it run free. Dear friends! Many of you know me as a content provider to the stock photo market. I've made a lot of shoots and pleased many with my photographs. I am very grateful to Shutterstock and Blendimages for their support and understanding. I've learned a lot and now I would like to make a serious project the result of which will be two art books. Unfortunately, I am unable to start the project on my own due to financial reasons and therefore I am starting a Kickstarter campaign that you can check (atlink will be available 13.05.13) The opportunity to help the project through PayPal is also available at serov.vladimir@mail.ru . I don't want to leave you without compensation and so I have prepared a number of interesting presents for those who help fund the project. Everyone will get goodies! I am also grateful for any support and spreading of the word about my project. Thank you for being with me, thank you for your friendship and help! Sincerely, Your Russian friend Vladimir https://www.facebook.com/LightDarkProject

Talia Halliday is book artist. She is not a writer or a publisher, but she can make anything from a planter to a purse out of your favorite novel. It was truly extraordinary to get to see exactly what goes into making these pieces of art.
