1. Storm Zone

From January 20 to 30, one of the most devastating storms of the decade ravaged the North East coast of Australia, particularly South East Queensland. The remnants of Cyclone Oswald slowly made its way down the coast, inflicting damage to everything in its path and inundating homes with record breaking floodwaters and huge seas. After signing with Ozone and getting his hands on some of their gear, Andy Yates was there and ready to meet the storm head on. Day 1 had arguably the most wind to hit the coast in over a decade. Police and SES workers were also on scene investigating a potential missing person report after an individual was seen being sucked out by the raging tide. This turned out to be a false alarm after the individual reportedly managed to swim to safety without informing authorities. Day 2 had significantly less wind than day 1, but with huge and chaotic seas over 6m and only a 6 second period. • Andy's Ozone Summer Series - Ep 2 - The Lighter the Better

Ozone Zephyr - the lighter the better The Zephyr surprises me every time I have a session on it. The Sunshine Coast has been fortunate to have steady 8-10 knot winds for the last week. Usually 8-10 knots is synonymous with frustration, groveling, riding downwind and generally not an enjoyable experience for kiters, but the Zephyr changes all that. Not only has the Zephyr allowed me to be powered in these marginal conditions, it has also opened up my eyes to what is possible in light winds and the advantages of using a bigger kite. I’ve had some amazing sessions over the last week at my local kite spot of Caloundra Rivermouth. 8 knots with a bit of tidal current is all I needed to be doing powered tricks and cranking upwind. For me the best and most exciting part of all is the ability to park the beast at the start of my trick and forget about it, knowing that it’ll be right where I left it when I land. The Zephyr also boosts like a champ and sometimes I find myself doing some old-school floaty boosts. Basically I just had an all-round fun time during the filming of these sessions. Let’s face it; no one wants to be on the beach kiting in 30+ knots with windburn, sand blowing in your eyes, and your girlfriend sitting in the car looking at her watch in frustration. No. To me the best sessions are those when the wind is light, the Zephyr is cranking upwind, the water is flat, and your girlfriend is sitting on the beach in her bikinis getting an epic tan on – that’s the Zephyr experience! Enjoy :) www.flyozone.com/kitesurf/en/products/kites/zephyr/info/ Filmed and Edited by www.glenbowden.com

A short video documenting the progression and positivity of "Team Possible" as they challenged themselves and the norms. Paraplegic kitesurfing superstar, Amanda Boxtel shows how to take a positive approach and ask "why not" rather than why. She can swim, snow ski and waterski, so why not kitesurf? Kitethrills took on the challenge and adapted some standard gear to give it a go. Amanda showed us she can do it and we are very much looking forward to the next time she visits her home shores and gets back out there to ride in stronger winds. Huge thanks to Amanda, Kitethrills team, Mike, Lisa, Robbie and Glen for getting in there and going for it. www.amandaboxtel.com www.kitethrills.com Produced by www.glenbowden.com Amanda flew Ozone Kites; www.flyozone.com/kitesurf/en/

2014 C4 – it does it in everything I’ve been fortunate to have spent some serious time on the C4 over the last year. My first few experiences this time last year on the 2013 model were in some of the fiercest conditions I’ve ever experienced at home on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland – some of you may remember “Storm Zone” posted about this time last year. Although this was not the most ideal situation to be trying out an unfamiliar kite for the first time, it was however, a huge testament to the kite. Not only did it get me through the session safely, I was actually able to get comfortable with the kite despite the conditions. What a change up it has been this year with the 2014 model C4. The Sunshine Coast has, unlike this time last year, been blessed with absolutely perfect conditions. I’ve been able to have some amazing sessions on the new C4s at my favourite local spots – mainly Caloundra and Maroochydore Rivermouths. The changes and innovations that have been integrated into this year’s model are subtle, yes, but noticeable nonetheless. Somehow Rob and Torrin have managed to squeeze in even more explosive pop and an all around smoother kite feel. I always say it but you truly know a good kite when you use one. Over these last few months I’ve really been frothing on my kiting, and not just on wakestyle – I’ve been doing a few downwinders on my surfboard and although the C4 is obviously not in the same league as the Reo in the waves, it definitely holds its own. As the last two generations have proven to me, the C4 can perform in anything; from perfect conditions all the way up to conditions you’re hardly ever likely to experience. And although it’s obviously tailored for aggressive wakestyle and freestyle riding, it definitely holds its own in all styles... well, maybe not racing, get an Edge for that haha. I can’t really say much else about the 2014 C4. Experiencing the C4 firsthand is way more powerful than any words I can write. I will however, leave you with this – the 2014 C4 is the best kite I’ve ever used. - Andy Yates www.flyozone.com/kitesurf/en/products/kites/c4/info/ Filmed and Edited by www.glenbowden.com Cover Image: Stephan Kleinlein & Torrin Bright
