      • ZBrush 2.5D Illustration Tips For Quicker Scene Creation - using markers to speed up your workflow

Positioning a subtool scene in a high resolution document for print can be sticky/ tricky as it place higher demands on your computer. It's therefore far quicker to position your scene and find your composition at a lower resolution document size then use a marker to record your subtool scene's position before you upsize your document for print/ image output . Covered in this tutorial: 1, using markers to split subtool components to 2.5 layers for quick texturing 2, the artistic advantages of splitting subtool components to 2.5D pixol layers for baking lighting Note: using markers is an old ZBrush 2.5D positioning method - this was prior to being able to mark viewport/ canvas positions with Document> zapplink >custom positions and saved views which allow you to upsize documents and subtools positions in proportion by recalling saved views for your chosen subtool scene for bpr rendering . Markers are also prior to using the timeline keyframes to quickly store multiple views of subtools (in edit mode) to judge the best composition positions before committing to a Zapplink saved custom views. You can also use these more recent techniques to place 2.5 D objects by merely exiting edit mode to commit 3D to pixols.

Willa has these cool bath toys and I decided to model one using only ZBrush! Typically, I would box-model something like this in 15-20 minutes in Maya, then bring it over, but I wanted to see if I could get the volumes using Dynamesh and masking. There's lots I did wrong here, but I'm still learning all the ins and outs of the program. This is also my first time trying out poly paint - it seems to have held up ok for this particular model. (I just noticed that I forgot to add the red headlights - it was late...) The renders at the end are BPR out of ZBrush using one of the supplied panoramic backgrounds. The specular is way off (i'm still making heads or tails of how MatCaps and LightCaps work together) but I wanted to try for a full image strictly ZBrush. Thanks for watching!
