Breast cancer is the leading cancer killer among women worldwide, according to the WHO. If preventative measures are taught and cancer is caught early, we can lower these numbers drastically — monthly self exams, seeing a doctor on a regular basis and knowing your risks. BEAN Shanghai is increasing awareness about breast cancer prevention in China, where cancer has become the leading cause of death in China. Know your girls. Take the pledge. Lower your risk. However, upon working on changing her mindset, she underwent a transformation, discovering a more hopeful and optimistic perspective on her treatments (“the person that I was physically and emotionally before cancer is gone”). Having overcome her greatest fear, she discusses the value of receiving help, love and support from those closest to her and her experience of “going around bald all the time…and being fine with it.”
