BP or not BP staged a detectives flashmob and performance at British Museum on 29th March 2015 in protest at continued BP sponsorship of exhibitions at the museum. In a mock trial, they highlighted the proven corporate criminality of BP, and accused the museum of therefore harbouring criminals. They also queried why the museum continues to greenwash BP's name given the small financial benefit they receive - recently uncovered as just 0.8% of their overall budget.

On Sunday (8th Feb), members of the activist theatre troupe "BP or not BP?" entered the British Museum and launched into a guerrilla performance in the Great Court, in front of surprised museum-goers and staff. The pop-up play – featuring Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson and a unit of bumbling police officers – challenged the museum’s controversial funding relationship with BP. Holmes and Watson did their best, by Jove, but the oily villain BP escaped into the museum! So now they need your help. On Sunday March 29th 2015, at 3pm, you are invited to a Detective Flashmob inside the British Museum. Come dressed as your favourite investigator (Columbo? Miss Marple? Scooby-doo?) or even in plainclothes, and help us track down this dangerous criminal and stop the museum from aiding and abetting BP’s crimes. If you’re interested in coming, please send us an email to info@bp-or-not-bp.org and we’ll send you more details. You can also join the Facebook event here or see bp-or-not-bp.org/CatchBP for more details. In the meantime, you can sign the petition at dropbp.org and share this video! BP is officially the world’s biggest corporate criminal, having received the largest criminal fine in history (at least $4.5 bn) after pleading guilty to the Deepwater Horizon disaster. By taking sponsorship from BP and plastering its logos on exhibitions, the British Museum is helping BP to cover up its crimes: not just Deepwater Horizon, but its dastardly activities in the Tar Sands, the Arctic, and around the world, not to mention its colossal contribution to climate change.
