The vision for Malku Institute of Technology is to literally ‘Take the Institution to the rural Communities in Africa.” The Building of Malku school will enable the kind of practical solution-focused flexi-education designed to address deficiencies in the areas of entrepreneurial agriculture, nutritional science, and environmental studies, adaptive technology, special education, entrepreneurship and ethical leadership. It aspires to be a lab and workshop for the training and equipping solutions for students in Africa. Africa is a rapidly developing continent. According to the Youth Division of the African Union Commission and African Development Bank (AfDB), about 60% of the total population of Africa is below the age of 24 years without any proper secondary or higher education. Malku Institute of Technology interventions remain in line with the following: - African Union Commission’s Youth - Africa Youth Decade Plan of Action (AYDPOA) - Africa 2009-2018 / Africa Youth Charter - Africa Union Youth Volunteerism (AU-YV), - Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5 - ECOWAS Vision 2020 themes 1-4 which are lagging in the ECOWAS region. . All the above identify the Education Sector as a basic enabler for economic advancement, stronger, healthier communities and increased equality and Agriculture as a priority sector expected to create necessary momentum for higher economic growth But we need your contribution to help us build Phase 1 of Malku Institute of Technology School campus, help us build a more permanent staple in the heart of Africa that will generate progress, provide the educational system needed for thousands of youths to enhance and rebuild better communities, hospitals, local clinics, farming & alternative energy sources that can sustain Africa's future. We had the amazing opportunity of traveling into Vicente Guerrero, Mexico to build a house for a family in need. We spent a total of 6 days in mexico getting to know the family while building them a home. It was a fantastic experience! If you want to read more about the trip you can visit our blog: http://timedropsmedia.com/buildinghope/ Big thank you to @vitchub & Jorge for helping us out with the music. Jorge Arturo Lopez delivered a truly authentic piece from Mexico, we appreciate it!

The SXSW Audience Award winner BUILDING HOPE tells the inspiring story of The Nobelity Project's partnership with a rural African community to build the area's first high school. Through drought, flood, and fundraising challenges, the film chronicles the construction of Mahiga Hope High School and the connection between a thousand people in the U.S. and an African community working to create a better future for their children. An inspiring story of those who believe education shouldn’t end after the 8th grade, this is the third of Turk Pipkin's trilogy of feature docs that began with NOBELITY and ONE PEACE AT A TIME. (And yes, Turk is most often recognized as having played that narcoleptic guy on THE SOPRANOS.) Also appearing are Willie Nelson, Cameron Sinclair (Architecture for Humanity), and Auma Obama (sister to President Obama). The soudttrack includes music by Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Ayub Ogada, Afro Celt Sound System, Eliza Gilkyson and Kat Edmonson. In addition to film festival awards and critical acclaim ("Red bull for the humanitarian soul," said the Austin Chronicle), Building Hope has already inspired viewers to help the Nobelity Project partner with 17 additional schools in Kenya to build classrooms, libraries, water systems and science labs. It was a distinct honor to be asked to create a series of videos for the newly-renovated Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum and Library. President Carter is one of my heroes, and it was a joy to tell the story of the organization he and Mrs. Carter founded over 25 years ago. While I never traveled with the Carters on their many worldwide journeys, I was there in spirit, as I combed through hundreds of hours of footage and audio recordings that captured their work. The most important message I can share from this project is that a group of hard-working, dedicated people can indeed change the world. The Carter Center's work stands as a beacon for what can be accomplished. -William VanDerKloot, Director/Producer - BUILDING HOPE
