The 56-minute documentary “Moon Shots” shows impressive ultra-HD photographs of the moon shots and tells thrilling stories from the Apollo era. Using 3D photo animations and film and sound documents from the NASA archives, the documentary accompanies the journey of the Apollo astronauts from the launch pad at Cape Kennedy to the summit of the Hadley moon massif. The audience experiences panorama pans across the lunar surface as if they would stand on the lunar soil themselves and watch scientific experiments on the moon from close up. Orbital flights above the earth and the backside of the moon show the space flights from the perspective of the astronauts. The audience is up close - as if they were astronauts themselves. “Moon Shots” also shows the immense technical challenges, which engineers and astronauts had to overcome on their journeys in the vacuum called space. Not a single Apollo mission was without a glitch; each moon shot calls for dramatic decisions from both astronauts and the flight controllers on earth.

Our long-time friend Ron Burch took Allison and me to Yuri's Night at the California Science Center in LA to celebrate 52 years of manned spaced flight since Yuri Gagarin first orbited the Earth in 1961. It was a hoot. We met a lot of fun and interesting people and shared our common interests in technology, astronomy, space travel, Star Trek, and general geekiness. The center piece of the event was the space shuttle Endeavour which is currently positioned horizontally in a temporary location. She will remain horizontal until 2017 when they complete the structure to mount it vertically with an external tank and a pair of solid rocket boosters. Challenge BBH had developed a great TV script and competition prize but needed help fleshing out the bigger integrated campaign. Solution We turned it from a competition to win a trip to space to a recruitment campaign for astronauts to carry out Axe’s mission: ‘to reclaim Space for men with balls’. AASA was then created and a multi-phased, global recruitment campaign developed. The campaign consisted of social activation, product integration, physical stunts and viral videos - everything to help turn a great paid media campaign into a 360 degree integrated success.

On this episode of Ferris Out Loud, Ashley, Johnathon, Spencer, and Megan start things off by catching up with each other and discussing what they did over Spring Break. Next, the Ferris Out Loud gang discusses the Ferris held Relay For Life event. Then, the hosts talk about an internet clip from Britain’s X Factor television show, where two X Factor hosts become enraged at a participant for “copying one of the host’s style.” The group then follows that up by discussing a popular internet conversation, Buzz Aldrin’s dream of going to Mars. Finally, the gang wraps up by briefly sharing their favorite books-turned-into-movies.

View the full documentary on Aeon Video: aeon.co/video/science/the-explorers-club-behind-the-scenes-of-great-expeditions/ Welcome to the Explorers Club, perhaps the most influential professional society you’ve never heard of – or at least, one of the most fascinating. In this video from NPR’s Science Friday, Will Roseman, the Explorers Club’s executive director, gives a guided tour through the society’s imposing New York City headquarters, which features a Hemingway-esque collection of trophies and artifacts from great journeys, including taxidermied exotic animals and a flag that’s travelled to the moon. Despite its rather colonial character, the Explorers Club is more than just a glorified cigar room for the elite. Since being founded in 1904, the society has been an influential champion of science and field research, with Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Jane Goodall, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay among its members. It is dedicated to ‘the ideal that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore’.
