Heel Pain - Podiatrist in San Leandro, Los Gatos and Pleasanton, CA - Michael Stein, DPM http://www.footdoctoreastbay.com (510) 483-3390 Dr. Michael A. Stein of Foot Doctor of the East Bay discusses the symptoms, causes and treatments for Heel Pain. Plantar fasciitis is the term commonly used to refer to heel and arch pain traced to an inflammation on the bottom of the foot. More specifically, plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the connective tissue, called plantar fascia, that stretches from the base of the toes, across the arch of the foot, to the point at which it inserts into the heel bone. Overpronation is the most common cause of plantar fasciitis. As the foot rolls inward excessively when walking, it flattens the foot, lengthens the arch, and puts added tension on the plantar fascia. Over time, this causes inflammation. Also known as heel spur syndrome, the condition is often successfully treated with conservative measures, such as the use of anti-inflammatory medications, ice packs, stretching exercises, orthotic devices, and physical therapy. Note: Please consult your physician before taking any medications. In persistent cases, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Treatment (ESWT) may be used to treat the heel pain. Diabetic Wound Care - Podiatrist in San Leandro, Los Gatos and Pleasanton, CA - Michael Stein, DPM http://www.footdoctoreastbay.com (510) 483-3390 Dr. Michael A. Stein of Foot Doctor of the East Bay discusses the symptoms, causes and treatments for diabetic foot wounds. Foot problems are a big risk in diabetics. Diabetics must constantly monitor their feet or face severe consequences, including amputation. With a diabetic foot, a wound as small as a blister from wearing a shoe that's too tight can cause a lot of damage. Diabetes decreases blood flow, so injuries are slow to heal. When your wound is not healing, it's at risk for infection. As a diabetic, your infections spread quickly. If you have diabetes, you should inspect your feet every day. Look for puncture wounds, bruises, pressure areas, redness, warmth, blisters, ulcers, scratches, cuts and nail problems. Get someone to help you, or use a mirror. Athlete’s Foot - Podiatrist in San Leandro, Los Gatos and Pleasanton, CA - Michael Stein, DPM http://www.footdoctoreastbay.com (510) 483-3390 Dr. Michael A. Stein of Foot Doctor of the East Bay discusses the symptoms, causes and treatments for Athlete’s Foot. Athlete's Foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a skin disease caused by a fungus that usually occurs between the toes. The fungus attacks the feet because shoes create a warm, dark, and humid environment that encourages fungus growth. Warm, damp areas around swimming pools, showers, and locker rooms, are also breeding grounds for fungi. Symptoms of Athlete's Foot include drying skin, itching, scaling, inflammation, and blisters on and between the toes. Athlete's Foot can spread to the soles of the feet and to the toenails as well as other parts of the body, which is why timely treatment is so important. You can prevent Athlete's Foot by: • Not walking barefoot, particularly in public pools and locker rooms. • Reducing foot perspiration by using talcum powder. • Wearing light and airy shoes. • Wearing socks that keep your feet dry, and changing them frequently if you perspire heavily. While fungicidal and fungistatic chemicals are usually used to treat Athlete's Foot problems, they often fail to contact the fungi in the lower layers of the skin. For persistent Athlete's Foot, a prescription topical or oral antifungal drug may be needed. Note: Please consult your physician before taking any medications. MIS Laser Therapy for Foot Pain - Podiatrist in San Leandro, Los Gatos and Pleasanton, CA - Michael Stein, DPM http://www.footdoctoreastbay.com (510) 483-3390 Podiatrist Dr. Michael A. Stein of Foot Doctor of the East Bay discusses MIS Laser Therapy for Foot Pain. Regular sufferers of foot and heel pain have been through the drill of rehabilitation many times before: regular stretching, icing the swollen area, massages, and oral anti-inflammatory pills. Pain in the heels happens to most of us eventually—it’s one of the most common ailments affecting American adults, with perhaps as much as 75 percent of the population experiencing it on at least some level at least once in their lives. For some, it’s due to frequent running or intense athletic activity. For others, just the opposite—maybe we’re out of shape, or overweight, and putting too much force on feet and ankles that just aren’t strong enough. Did you know, though, that laser therapy for foot pain has emerged as a potential solution to these common aches? At Foot Doctor of the East Bay, we have a state-of-the-art MLS laser therapy system and can evaluate your condition to determine if you’re a candidate for this exciting treatment option. The device uses a beam of light that penetrates deep into the skin’s soft tissues. There, it stimulates cellular reactions to produce a wide variety of benefits. It accelerates the body’s natural healing process by attracting water, nutrients, and blood flow to the spot of application. This reduces pain, inflammation, and can even help close wounds faster and restore nerve functioning. When combined with traditional rehabilitation methods, laser therapy for foot pain can provide long-sought-after relief much faster than ever before. The procedure lasts only about five minutes per session and is totally painless and non-invasive—it isn’t a cutting laser; it’s just a beam of light. This is not surgery and will not cause any scarring. If you’re like most people, you’ll notice significant improvements in your foot and heel pain after just a couple of sessions, and total relief after six to eight five-minute appointments. For some, though, the improvement comes even faster, perhaps after even a single session. If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, bursitis, or any number of foot, heel, or ankle conditions that produce pain or swelling, call Foot Doctor of the East Bay to schedule an appointment. Our experts Dr. Michael Stein and Zeindelin Ahmad, DPM will provide a thorough examination to determine the root cause of your symptoms. If the pain is really intense, we might suggest orthotics to provide more walking and standing support for the feet, custom boots to wear at night to stretch the plantar fascia, or cortisone shots directly into the affected area. If the pain doesn’t go away, that’s when we can talk about whether or not laser therapy for foot pain is right for you. We are the East Bay’s leading provider of podiatric care and we make it our mission to get you back on your feet as soon as possible. You can reach us at one of our three convenient offices. Laser Fungal Toenails - Podiatrist in San Leandro, Los Gatos and Pleasanton, CA - Michael Stein, DPM http://www.footdoctoreastbay.com (510) 483-3390 Podiatrist Dr. Michael A. Stein of Foot Doctor of the East Bay discusses laser treatment for fungal nails. For years, people have spent time and energy trying to hide the embarrassing effects of toenail fungus. The infection, clinically known as onychomycosis, can be stubborn and disfiguring. From yellowing and thickening of the affected nails, to a hard-to-hide odor, there is nothing pleasant about dealing with this common foot infection—until now. Thousands of patients at Foot Doctor of the East Bay have experienced success with laser treatment for fungal nails. As part of our commitment to cutting edge technology, we were at the forefront of bringing this treatment to the communities around San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland, CA. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to slip on your favorite sandals without fear. Join the celebration—schedule your appointment today! Say Hello to Laser Technology The GenesisPlus Cutera laser provides a cutting-edge answer to an age-old problem—nail fungus. While topical creams and oral medications have been around for a long time, effectiveness has varied. In the past, some people saw improvement, but other infections persisted and even worsened. Concerns over the side effects associated with oral prescriptions stopped some patients in their tracks and even led to an attitude of, “I’ll just have to live with it.” Dr. Michael Stein and Zeindelin Ahmad, DPM, experts in fungal nails, are happy to announce that there is a safe and effective way to say goodbye to discolored, crumbly nails. Laser therapy addresses these former treatment stumbling blocks by eradicating the problem at its source—underneath the nail where the fungi hide. There’s peace of mind knowing that the technology behind our laser of choice, GenesisPlus by Cutera, is FDA approved for the treatment of fungal toenails.
