If you've got four minutes, I'd love to give you a timelapse tour of all of the most visually stunning places California has to offer, filmed over four years, from coastline to mountains to deserts, from cities to agriculture to national parks. It's almost double the size of the United Kingdom and slightly larger than Japan. If it was it's own independent country (as it was briefly for a few weeks in 1846), it would have the 8th largest economy in the world by GDP. It contains the highest summit and the lowest desert in the Contiguous United States (and the second-lowest point in the world), both of which are in the same county. It's most known for movies, technology, wine, and national parks, but also grows more than a third of the vegetables consumed in the US, two-thirds of the fruits and nuts, and an unknown but presumably huge percentage of marijuana. It contains every major climatological biome except tundra. More important than those facts, to me, is that I was born and spent most of my life here. The average clip took 1-3 hours to film and another 3-10 hours to edit. Several cuts are from clips more than 24 hours long. I shot 423 clips over four years to make this, but the majority of the 67 clips ultimately used were shot in the last 12 months. The music is "Intense Rocks" by Sebastian Watzinger, licensed from Audiosocket. If you'd like some background on my process, Dissolve did an interview with me about that: http://bit.ly/meethal I did an interview with Fstoppers, where I discuss technical details, cameras used, and workflow: bit.ly/1wfrWPo Timelapse slider dolly by Dynamic Perception: bit.ly/1pci4QI Most of the individual clips are available for license via Getty Images, Dissolve, or directly. Watch "Fidelity" and sign our letter to the state Supreme Court before they hear oral arguments in the case on March 5. Tell the Supreme Court to invalidate Prop 8, reject Ken Starr's case, and let loving, committed couples marry. 371,155 people have signed this letter. Ride the Sky takes you on a journey through the forest and on into the Universe. I had the idea of a new astro time-lapse technique in which the camera is pointed right at the north star and mounted to a motorized pivot point directly lined up with the sensor so the camera is able to spin with the stars through the night. Sit back, relax and Ride the Sky. This timelapse video is a collection of footage shot over the last year and a half around the western half of the United States. The shots ranged from very different locations. From Montana to Arizona and most weren't easy to get to but of course that makes them worth going to. The locations captured ranged in temps of 100 degrees to -9 degrees and in elevations of 12,000 feet to 225 feet below sea level. It took over 15,000 captured still images to make this video. I would like to thank the companies that provided motion control equipment. http://www.dynamicperception.com/ http://www.kesslercrane.com/ The TB3 eMotimo that I used along with the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero was a huge help in getting some of these shots. http://emotimo.com/ Music: "Journey to the Line" Artist: Hans Zimmer https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/journey-to-the-line/id212408475?i=212408687 Website: http://599productions.com/ Twitter: Drew599 There will be a follow up video to this one that will cover the urban aspect.

Our goal was to set out and shoot a short film that was lit entirely by moonlight. We waited for the moon to become full and on the night of September 8th we set out to explore the coast in California and see what we could find. When we arrived at our location, the timing couldn't have been more perfect! It was around 12:30 AM and the moon was barely lighting the beautiful beach. The entire shoot took place between 12:30 AM- 2:00 AM. For the first two scenes were shot at a different location a few days before the moon became full. The first scene was shot at 1/25th, f/1.4, 25,600 ISO, The second scene was shot at 1/25th, f/1.4, 32,000 ISO Our settings for the rest of the video were around 1/30th, f/1.4, ISO 12,800. To give you a perspective of how dark it was, there are a couple photos in the behind the scenes below. We did not add any color grading, noise reduction, or sharpness. All of the clips are straight out of the camera shot in the PP2 setting. You will notice some purple fringing around the left side, The Metabones adapter that we rented had a light leak issue from what it looks like. Sony has done an amazing job in creating this camera especially after seeing the quality that has come out of this camera. Song used: Clouds over hills by A. First off thanks for watching my Nature DEMO REEL - Made to be Seen! To enjoy it in the best possible way turn the volume way up, Yell at everyone to be quiet and Dive into this film! If you have a blazing fast internet speed head on over to Youtube and choose 4K in the settings as the vimeo compression isn't the greatest! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzBsT1eWIpQ Follow along with my adventures: Facebook: http://facebook.com/joelschatphoto Instagram: http://instagram.com/joelschat http://joelschat.com Alright! So basically this is my nature demo reel! My passion for the past 2 years has been to show off Creation as best I know how, which lead me to mountain tops, canyons, beaches and all sorts of spectacular places! I have been so blessed to be able to witness some of the things I've seen in the past 2 years. Thankfully I have been able to follow this passion of mine and continue to travel as I am extremely fortunate to work for an amazing company called http://Roadtrippers.com which allows me to travel and document roadtripping! Our Films: http://vimeo.com/roadtrippers The hardest part of this film for me was finding the right song. It had been months of casual searching but finding nothing. Then one day while I was at home (Vancouver) sitting in church my pastor used this song to help prove a point, that we have a soul and that is what seperates us from the rest of nature, the second I heard it I knew it was perfect and I rushed home to start the editing process! The song is called: Saturn - Sleeping at Last http://sleepingatlast.com If you want to see exactly what goes into making one of my videos check out a day in my life while on the road here: https://vimeo.com/89324153 The equipment I used for this film includes a bunch of Canon gear: 5d2, 6d, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200, Rokinon 14mm (great for stars) Lee Filters A Bunch of Manfrotto tripods and my Motion Control! Dynamic Perception makes some fantastic Sliders and now a pan/tilt head that is sweet but its the stage 1 that really changed things for me. It makes it possible to bring a slider on a long hike or on the airplane as its carbon fiber and super light! DP Stage 1 Carbon and DP Stage 0 - http://dynamicperception.com Emotimo TB3 http://emotimo.com Promote Control (Best intervalometer I have by far) http://goo.gl/8aIWL F-stop Tilopa BC And of course I couldn't have done it without my VW Westfalia!! All of these clips are available in 4-6K, email me at joel@roadtrippers.com for inquires.
