        • Baka Pygmies, the Turning point

          from at noon Added 32 1 0

"The pygmies traditionally lived in the forest. They were mobile, semi-nomadic and relatively far from the tracks while farmers had chosen to develop their villages along the tracks. Then because of the attraction of the tracks, the pygmies finally arrived along the road too and their numbers increased. So their habitat finally became structured and developed. Moangue-Le Bosquet, which interests us because of the large population, is also interesting as regards cultural evolution. We're in a town! There's a school, a hospital, shops... So tomorrow's way of life is already starting here." Alain Froment – Doctor of Medicine, Anthropologist - IRD Director of Research. "It is agreed that growth is similar in all modern populations of humans. It must be remembered that growth is a change in dimensions until the adult size is attained. If the size differs between populations, this means that the processes responsible for this size are also different. This difference in size and difference in growth reveal very rich and substantial human biological diversity. In the case of the Pygmies, we assume that small size is an adaptation to their environment, to the forest. But what interests us is how adult size becomes established. Six years of data gathering means that we can now sketch a growth curve for the Baka. And its immediate usefulness—seen very clearly this year—is proof that all the data that we are collecting are applicable." Fernando Ramirez Rozzi – Anthropologist, Biologist – CNRS Director of Research. ------------------- INTEGRAL ENGLISH TRANSLATION : http://maget.maget.free.fr/Filmo/Baka-Croissance/BAKA.net-en.htm

REYKJAVIK TO CAPE TOWN 6 MONTH OVERLAND TOUR You can be one of the 14 travellers who will be joining us in our converted ex army 4x4 truck Driving overland through the deserts and jungles of West and Central Africa from the frozen north to the tropical south. Our next trip starts January 2016 Our Expedition is different from other holidays you may have taken – we go through areas where no tourists go, the roads can be bad, food can be limited to what we have stocked on the truck, camp sites are few and basic, Camping out in the deserts and jungles of west Africa, experiencing the remoteness of central Africa. If you are expecting WIFI and running water in every place we visit, then this is not a trip for you. Visas can be hard to get and communication to the outside world is limited or unavailable at times. We guarantee; we’ll break down, that we will have to wait some place we don’t really want to be, for visas ,spare parts or just for someone to open a closed road and we’ll have to dig the truck out of mud and sand.....get yourself ready to go to the real world. The trip might overrun and finish late; the route can change due to rains, closed roads visa issues, breakdowns and politics. It’s best not to book your return flights home until you finish the trip. To join, you need to be prepared to work as part of a team and to share with the others on this Trans African overland trip. Some of the things you’ll never forget are the satisfaction of getting a 10 ton truck unstuck, cooking over open fires after collecting the firewood, pitching a tent and getting it right even when it rains, going to sleep when its dark and waking at dawn and wanting to get out of your sleeping bag to start another day in which you have no idea of what will happen, washing in rivers, not washing and not caring that your dirty, living out side for months, seeing more than you have ever before, trying to learn French, Arabic or Swahili and having people understand what you say, finding out just how far places are away from where you started and how different places can be and how unaffected out of the way places are from the world we normally live in. Most people who do an expedition find it a lot of fun though of course hard at times.

Deep in the heart of Africa, a wrestling champion has roamed undefeated for three decades and 86 fights. He has left his mark on his people and earned their respect with decades of relentless hard work. Now it is time for him to confront his opponents one last time, before stepping aside from the professional ranks. When we heard that the wrestling legend from Cameroon, Mr. Super Makia, would be retiring, we decided to pay homage to his unparalleled career by documenting his final match, creating a capsule collection under his name and donating part of the proceeds from this collection to the Super Makia retirement fund. Before we knew it we were on a plane to Yaounde, to follow Super Makia’s journey to the final fight, the one that would crown his magnificent career. So, without further due, Ladies and gentlemen, may we present you the undefeated African wrestling champion from Yaounde Cameroon, Mr. Super Makia. http://makiaclothing.com/supermakia.html
