      Allan Chochinov is the Chair and co-founder of the SVA MFA in Products of Design Program. He writes widely on design education and the impact of design on contemporary culture. Allan lectures around the world and at professional conferences including IDSA, AIGA, and IxDA. He is also a partner of Core77, a New York-based design network serving a global community of designers and design enthusiasts, where he serves as the editor-in-chief. Prior to Core77, Allan’s work in product design focused on the medical and diagnostic fields as well as on consumer products and workplace systems. Allan is associate professor at New York’s Pratt Institute, where he teaches two courses in the graduate I.D. department. He has been named on numerous design and utility patents and has received awards from I.D. Magazine, Communication Arts, The Art Directors Club, and The One Club. He also serves on the boards of The Designers Accord, Design Ignites Change, and DesigNYC. This lecture occurred on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 5:00pm in MMCH A-14.

        Tony Fry is a designer, design theorist, cultural theorist and educator working in the areas of design, sustainability, creative industries and culture. Tony is a director of sustainability consultancy Team D/E/S, Professor, Design Futures Program, Griffith University, Queensland College of Art, and a contributing editor of the e-journal Design Philosophy Papers. He led the Griffith University, AusAID funded research and development project to create an academy of indigenous creative industries in East Timor. He continues the work with this project.           Emily Pilloton: Tell Them I Built This: Transforming Communities through Design-based Education Emily is the founder and director of Project H Design, design initiatives for Humanity, Habitats, Health, and Happiness. Project H is a nonprofit design and architecture agency that uses the power of design and hands-on building to catalyze communities and public education from within. Project H has a core focus on using design and full-scale building projects to activate public education systems in the US and to provide a more engaged learning framework for K-12 students, particularly in rural communities.           • Christopher Pullman: The Future is Not What You Thought it Would Be

            For 35 years, Chris was Vice President of Design and Branding for WGBH, public broadcasting in Boston, which supplies about a third of both the PBS prime time schedule and associated websites on PBS.org. He and his staff were responsible for the visual personality of WGBH, as expressed through the design of its on-air titles, credits and animation, promotional and sales support, classroom materials, and interactive media. As a result of its design practices the company was honored in 1986, with the Design Leadership Award from the American Institute of Graphic Arts.               Victor Margolin is Professor Emeritus of Design History at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is a co-editor of the academic design journal, Design Issues, and is the author, editor, or co-editor of a number of books including Design Discourse, Discovering Design, The Idea of Design, The Designed World, and The Politics of the Artificial. Currently he is working on a three-volume World History of Design that will be published by Berg in London.
