      - Concept Comparing with understanding the highly marketing based campaign activities, I am much more curious about the voters. Are voters trying to show their uniqueness by donating some special amount of money? The original data is treated as a huge database of human behaviour of choosing numbers to me. - Design The aim of design is to make the data speaks by itself. The viewer could either query the unique donation he/she thought or just browsing through the database with the fluent interface. Some extra interaction is designed to make viewers find out my hidden message... ///// This project is advised by Catalogtree.

The designers behind Catalogtree, Daniel Gross and Joris Maltha, collect enormous amounts of indigestible data and transform it into lucid images. These images tell stories that otherwise would be invisible. In 2006 they decided to portray a highway in their neighbourhood. This resulted in nine silk-screen posters, each portraying a different aspect of the road; such as traffic-intensity, accidents or traffic jams. The clients of Catalogtree are mostly newspapers and magazines, but in 2010 they designed the graphics for an interactive documentary called Money & Speed made for iPad. Their visualizations superbly explain the shortest financial crash ever on wall street. For this project they won two Dutch Design Awards. Apart from all their commissioned work Catalogtree also take time to experiment. Inspired by the random patterns in nature they use tiny robots to imitate the behaviour of swarms. http://www.catalogtree.net CREDITS Commissioning editor Submarine: Geert van de Wetering Producer: Olivia Sophie van Leeuwen Research: Liselot Francken Director: Jennifer Pettersson Camera: Wiro Felix Sound: Steven van Dijk Editor: Noud Holtman Colour Correction: Maurik de Ridder Music/Sound Design: Pastelle Music Produced by Submarine, Femke Wolting & Bruno Felix http://www.submarine.nl Commissioned by DutchDFA http://www.dutchdfa.com Like Dutch Profiles on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/dutchprofiles

Documentation from a 2 day MFA workshop on data visualization with Catalogtree. Everyone began with 50 objects, collectively making up more than 750 objects, which were then filtered through various combinations of 2 from 5 classical principles of organization [alphabetical, chronological, geographical, hierarchal, categorical]. Aerial shots were done using 5x 50-60cm large helium filled balloons, enough to lift a GoPro w/ WiFi BacPac into the air. Once we hit equilibrium, it was as a true floating steady cam! Workshop of data visualization given by CATALOGTREE. Project "Five Sow Bugs", a mapping of sow bugs behavior. By Rob van Leijsen Five sow bugs were positioned in the middle of the same stage, 25 times. After their release, the bugs searched their way to the border of the stage. The repetition of this process was captured by film. The backs of the bugs were painted to be able to differentiate them. Superimposing and multiplying the 25 takes gives an insight to their behavior. The poster represents a snapshot of these superimposed takes.
