Presider: Fr. Brian G. Walker, OP Parish: St. Benedict the African West The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Proclamation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint John. Glory to you o Lord. Jesus said to Nicodemus: “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent of the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believed in him might not perish, but have eternal life.” For God did not send his son into the world, to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him, will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things, hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth, comes to the light so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ Have you ever walked into a dark room and felt just a little bit nervous? Some people might even say that they were beyond nervous maybe even scared. The darkness has a tendency to do that. We don't always know what's in the darkness so we feel a nervousness. We prefer the light because in the light, things can be seen and there is less fear. It doesn’t mean that things can’t be dangerous. Sometimes even in the light things can be dangerous but if we can see the things around us, we are usually less nervous. Being in the light can be deceiving. Sometimes we may think that everything is just fine because we can't be blinded but sometimes we can be blinded by the light and yet, when we look closely we realize that things are not as they should be. Our world is very typical of this. When we look back over the years, we may not have realized how much our world has changed and not for the better. We have become people more closely related to the darkness than to the light. Even though we are in the light of day, the question is, how much do we contribute to the ensuing darkness? Do we do our part to let the light of God show, or do we just sit back and mind our own business? We can get used to the darkness but eventually just like plants we will die from that darkness do your part. Make the light of God known in the world around you. Amen and let us now together make our profession of faith found in our booklets on page 41.
