First time using iMovie. Song used: Broken Social Scene's "Shampoo Suicide." In the spring of 2007, during my final semester of college, I took a photography class. One of the last assignments was to create a cohesive set of photographs with a theme or underlying narrative. Anyway, that's how my project, "...As The Crane Takes Flight", was born (yes, the title is a direct reference to the Ted Leo song). I wanted to portray today's youth through a series of staged and unstaged photography shoots and translate each lifestyle from music I listen to (the songs that primarily inspired me were: Broken Social Scene's "Anthems for a 17-Year-Old Girl," Belle & Sebastian's "Dirty Dream #2," and Smashing Pumpkins' "Thirty-Three"). I took many photos over the course of two months, in Chicago and in rural central Illinois -- all of which are featured in the video. Since my camera took 3 exposures per shot, I realized I could dick around iMovie for a few hours and actually make a small movie. Out of thousands of photographs, I ended up using about 46 of them for the final photo project. An unplanned 6 minute video of my (15 minute) bike ride from home to work. I was testing a Bogan arm with a Pentax Optio point and shoot camera. It was the little 3.2 megapixel camera that fit in an Altoids tin. So the video is rough, and too long. I managed to edit it down to something reasonable. I wish I have kept it to three minutes though. The music was a hit from Geggy Tah. A California duo who, so far, are one-hit wonders. This is a cool song. ~RL

A drink made by the Three T Double E's (Big Tim, Todd, and Little Tim -- all of whom are electrical engineering grad students); it's one part Wild Turkey bourbon and one part Hot Damm cinnamon schnapps, dropped in a Rockstar energy drink (in this case, the one that's 70% juice). It gets the job done, whatever that job may be.
