Much is made in the music press of violinist Hilary Hahn's stunning technique, impeccable poise, and unshakable intonation. In that picture of perfection, however, one of her most striking character traits—her seemingly insatiable curiosity—can get a bit lost. Still, though she doesn't flaunt her boundary pushing with unusual concert dress or radical interpretive choices, she resolutely pursues her own interests with care and focus. 'Tributes-Pulse' (65 min, HDCam, Dolby E, color, 2011) is a collaboration between American filmmaker Bill Morrison and Danish composer and percussionist Simon Christensen.
Christensen originally conceived of the project as a tribute to four American composers: Charles Ives (1874-1954), Conlon Nancarrow (1912-1997), Steve Reich (b. 1936), and Trent Reznor (b. 1965). Using exquisitely deteriorating nitrate-based archival film, and an original aerial shot, Morrison weaves a story from the remnants of disparate narratives of the 20th century.

          from Die Bildmischer / Added

Charles Ives (1874-1954) was an American composer and insurance salesman from Danbury, Connecticut. He wrote this song in 1917 when the U.S. entered WWI. Ashamed of public enthusiasm for the war, this song was intended to be a parody of the popular song "Over There." Incorporating patriotic songs from former U.S. wars, Ives revised the song in 1942 during WWII to indict support for any war.
