I had been out of film school for five years, was juggling a day job and a handful of side projects when I came across Charlie Kaufman's BAFTA lecture on screenwriting. It was like I'd been punched in the gut. At that moment, all the stress and agony about hustling up money and fame and a career completely fell away. And what was left was the humble reminder of what writing, creativity, and art should all be about. I made this video as a way to capture and share that feeling, that insight. The section of the lecture included in this video was my favorite passage. But Charlie Kaufman's full lecture was full of wisdom. Please check it out: http://guru.bafta.org/charlie-kaufman-screenwriters-lecture The video was edited using footage from the stunning film "Samsara" (directed by Ron Fricke) and equally powerful "Koyaanisqatsi" (directed by Godfrey Reggio). http://www.barakasamsara.com http://www.koyaanisqatsi.com/films/koyaanisqatsi.php Music: Nine Inch Nails - Ghosts II - 13 (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US) http://ghosts.nin.com/main/home

A bizarre dialogue from one of my favorite movies, Synecdoche, New York (2008). As per the assignment, we could not use the original audio, so I enlisted one of my friends to perform the audio with me.

The very first episode of scenes from a life. scenes from a life is best enjoyed in chronological order from this episode on, however, you can also dip into and out of any episode at anytime. One episode is meant to flow into the next, but there are no overarching storylines or dilemmas, save from what naturally recur in the course of a day or a life. ----------------------------------------------------------- Whoever has no house now, will never have one. I didn't feel like any of the trailers for Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) really captured what I love about it. So I made one.
