    • BESE Committee ot the Whole Meeting 11.12.14

      from Phoebe Ferguson / Added

This video is the first two hours of the BESE meeting at Landry Walker High School on the West Bank of New Orleans, on November 12, 2014. The local school board, OPSB and John McDonogh steering committee have been working for months to make their case for the return of John McDonogh high school to the Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) local governance. It appears that the BESE Pro charter members never planned to return John McDonogh. This video clearly shows that most of the state board of education members have a vested interested in allowing outside charter companies to control and profit from operating our public schools. For years the New Orleans communities have made it very clear that they feel excluded from the decision making process that determines their children's future. They are requesting that their school be returned to local control but the BESE board continues to ignore them. Nine years after the state takeover by the Recovery School District, 100% of the RSD schools are run by charter companies or have been closed.
