I recently got a GoPro Hero and I wanted to try it out last night for a sunset time-lapse. Clouds started to move in and it would not be a good sunset so I tested it out in the opposite direction. 4 minutes of sky movement with 486 pictures.

The Red Trout Tournament started as an effort to bring awareness to the speckled trout and redfish fishery that exists in Crisfield Maryland. CCA Maryland recognized a problem with the old regulations for speckled trout. The recreational bag limit was excessive and the commercial limit had no limits, gear restrictions, season limits, and a minimum size that did not allow for the fishery to grow. We worked with Maryland DNR to put meaningful regulations in place. After several years, we emerged victorious. The recreational limit was cut from 10 to 4 fish. The commercial limit was cut from an unlimited fishery to a 125lb by catch allowance. We hope to see a more stable population of speckled trout within Maryland. The HUK Performance Fishing Red Trout Tournament is a celebration of that victory as well as a way to support the great people of Crisfield, Maryland. Crisfield was hit especially hard by Hurricane Sandy and still hasn’t fully recovered. Our tournament brings much needed economy to an area and a people that desperately need it. We will fill the hotels and restaurants. We will purchase gas, food, supplies, and fishing gear from the local businesses while having little or no impact on the resource. As with all of our tournaments, this is a catch and release event. Registration will open on April 1. Produced by Hooked Up. For more information, visit www.hookedup.fish.

The Chesapeake Bay - the largest estuary in the US - is in trouble. The pollution coming downstream puts fish, grasses, people at risk. The EPA was sued to do its job and clean up the Bay. But in early 2014, the EPA itself was sued by 21 states… led by farm and industrial entities… to stop cleaning up the Bay. The amicus brief included states as far away from the Bay as Alaska, Wyoming, Florida, Kansas… afraid that if the cleanup stood, their own watersheds would be next. Sheila McVicar was the reporter and I produced and wrote the piece for Al Jazeera America's flagship show, America Tonight.

As one of the important centers of the U.S. seafood industry, the Chesapeake Bay has for centuries supported watermen, businesses, and communities all along its shores. But catches of Chesapeake seafood are down, mostly due to poor water quality, and some bayside towns now face an uncertain future. Crisfield, once known as "the seafood capitol of the world," has seen its prominence shrink with the decline of the bay, leaving older generations to strike a balance between the waterman tradition and the changing tides of the times. Crisfield: Heart of the Chesapeake is part of a program called Chesapeake Villages which tells the stories of three such villages and their residents: Deal Island, Crisfield, and Hoopers Island. The entire 30-minute program will air on Maryland Public Television for Chesapeake Bay Week in April 2015 as well as premiere at the Washington D.C. Environmental Film Festival in March 2015.
