Free download at: http://www.reverbnation.com/alexpricemusic Filmed during my sophomore B.F.A. Music recital at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on April 26th, 2014. The combo consists of myself (violin/guitar), Andrew Milliken (piano), Shane Velsor (drum set), and Andrew Koss (bass). I was inspired by Maiko Jazz Violin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csaXAC5ygK8) to create my own arrangement on this incredible Chick Corea tune. Out of all of the jazz compositions on my recital, this one was the most technically and creatively demanding. I start out with my own cadenza where I made use of the flamenco chord progression in the four octave arpeggios and also quoted the English Horn solo from Manuel de Falla's "El Sombrero de Tres Picos" (also known as the "Three-Cornered Hat Song"), which is a ballet from the early 20th century. After the cadenza, the rest of the band cues in on a riff outlining the E-F-G-E progression before kicking into the a major melody section. Following the main theme of the song is a solo section where the band drops out and builds back in. Pieces from the introduction are brought back into the solo in order to transition back to the main melody before ending on a two chord vamp just like in the original Chick Corea recording on "Return to Forever." Departing from traditional jazz combo music form was something I wanted to do here and the group followed well and was able to perform at a high level. Also featured on my recital was standard classical guitar literature, Brazilian classical guitar music, an early Joe Venuti jazz violin transcription, a contemporary jazz composition from my violin instructor, and additional jazz combo music.
