Today, there are several trends that are forcing application architectures to evolve. Users expect a rich, interactive and dynamic user experience on a wide variety of clients including mobile devices. Applications must be highly scalable, highly available and run on cloud environments. Organizations often want to frequently roll out updates, even multiple times a day. Consequently, it’s no longer adequate to develop simple, monolithic web applications that serve up HTML to desktop browsers. In this talk we describe the limitations of a monolithic architecture. You will learn how to use the scale cube to decompose your application into a set of narrowly focused, independently deployable back-end services and an HTML 5 client. We will also discuss the role of technologies such as NodeJS and AMQP brokers. You will learn how a modern PaaS such as Cloud Foundry simplifies the development and deployment of this style of application. Chris Richardson Chris Richardson Chris Richardson is a developer and architect with over 20 years of experience. He is a Java Champion and the author of POJOs in Action, which describes how to build enterprise Java applications with POJOs and frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate. Chris is the founder of the original CloudFoundry.com and now spends his time investigating better ways to develop applications and evangelizing Cloud Foundry. He has a computer science degree from the University of Cambridge in England and lives in Oakland, CA with his wife and three children.

Modern applications are developed using multiple technologies: HTML5, NodeJS, SQL and NoSQL databases. Development is challenging since there are so many moving parts. In this talk, you will learn why we need to build applications this way and how Cloud Foundry, which is an modern, open-source PaaS, can help.

Music label Ca$h Money Records decided to throw a private event, together with SwaG ShaQ, in Amsterdam, to introduce three of their new signed artists. The second artist I got a chance to talk to, is Chris Richardson. This Virginia Beach native got a chance to show his talents when he reached the top five on the sixth season of American Idol. This got him in a spot where he caught the attention of Cash Money Records, who just had to sign him. About the signing, label co-founder Bryan "Baby" Williams aka Birdman excitedly comments, "The second I heard Chris sing, I knew he was a star. Talented beyond belief, he's got a voice that transcends boundaries, and he's an amazing addition to our expanding team. Watch out because this kid's got real heart and soul". Chris talks about how after being in the music industry for 15 years already, this opportunity puts him in a place where he feels he can really develop as an artist.
