        from iSocialWatch Added

Cindy Gallop's 4-minute presentation at TED2009 became one of the event's most talked about. It was a powerful and inspiring wake-up call to consider the creeping ubiquity of hardcore pornography in our culture. Speaking from her personal experience, Cindy argued that hardcore pornography had distorted the way a generation of young men thinks about sex. She talked about how she was fighting back with the launch of a website -- makelovenotporn.com -- to correct the myths being propagated. The consequential issues of hardcore pornography and violence on Internet pertaining to sexuality, education and cyberpsychology, represent the motivational force behind the creation of iSocialWatch as a nonprofit social media watchdog and consumer advocate. Cindy Gallop's initiative http://makelovenotporn.com received an extraordinary response when she launched it at TED 2009 - including support from many members of the porn industry. Cindy shares the experience of subsequently battling every possible barrier society could produce, to turn MakeLoveNotPorn into a business venture - https://www.makelovenotporn.tv/ - and the insights that process has provided on the biggest sociocultural influence on young people today that we don't talk about; how the porn industry can reinvent itself and its business model; and the huge opportunities the tech world is missing out on, given that every obstacle an entrepreneur with a tech startup encounters, triple when that startup is to do with sex. If you are offended by the use of sexually explicit language, please do not attend this session.

Archive from the Mindbrowse.com November 18th live broadcast. Moderated by sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, the discussion covered a variety of hot-button issues regarding the evolving place of women within the adult entertainment industry. Speakers included adult performer/director Ashley Fires, MakeLoveNotPorn.com co-founder Cindy Gallop, Penthouse Managing Director Kelly Holland, and author/attorney Frederick Lane. “Our first show was a smashing success, and we received a lot of really great feedback from viewers, including both people in the industry and the public at large,” said Sssh.com owner Angie Rowntree, who produces and coordinates all MindBrowse events. “Our panel did an amazing job with the first discussion, and we’re very fortunate to have the entire group back for the second debate.” Tibbals said that this installment of the “Women in Porn” series will focus on the intersection of mainstream media and porn. Panelists will discuss the mainstream’s veritable advertisement of tube sites and the impact Hollywood films like “Don Jon” and “Sex Tape” may have on preventing piracy. Mixed messages from prominent public figures will also be discussed. For example, “Girls” creator Lena Dunham’s career is heavily reliant on nudity and sex-related storylines, yet she has publicly blasted adult entertainment as “gross.” The debate will explore what impact these types of mixed messages have on the adult industry, the women who work in it, and attitudes about sex in general. “What we see, how we speak, and how cultural artifacts are spoken about are hugely significant components of social life. Specific issues like those we are going to discuss on this installment of ‘Women in Porn’ shape the way we experience adult entertainment, both within the industry and outside it,” Tibbals asserted. “I’m looking forward to another spirited, smart, and compelling discussion with our generous panelists.” “Women in Porn 2” also was live-tweeted and monitored at @ssshforwomen under the hashtag #WomenInPorn. As with all MindBrowse events, viewers interacted with the panelists, pose questions, and post observations of their own. “Audience participation is something we really want to encourage,” Tibbals said. “Our panel is so amazing, we could go on for hours based just on their interplay, but we want to hear from viewers and from porn fans — and from people who don’t approve of porn, as well. These are big issues with substantial impact on our culture, and we want to encourage discussion. All perspectives are welcome.” You can see the archive of this and other episodes at mindbrowse.com, a production of sssh.com erotica for women.
