    • Concentric Study at the Grand Palais

a video projection artwork by Dominic Harris, Cinimod Studio and North V South. Projection mapped on the facade of the Grand Palais, Paris. Commissioned for Art Paris 2015. http://cinimodstudio.com/project/a-concentric-study/ See making of video here: https://vimeo.com/123433779 See full 20 minute recording: https://vimeo.com/123529957 Harris’s ‘A Concentric Study’ is a geometric intervention of light and form that distorts and explores the historically rich Beaux-Art façade of the Grand Palais in Paris. The interplay between the projected patterns creates a playful yet dynamic tension to the underlying architecture and the historical gravitas of the surrounding area. In an evolution of traditional optical illusions, the patterns meander between calming geometric studies and more dramatic visual movements, accompanied throughout by a musical score that is integral to the overall experience. Both the visual and sonic elements of Harris’s installation alter the viewer’s perception of the Grand Palais so that its architecture takes on a new narrative. Renowned as a seminal historical building in Paris, the light projection temporally transforms the architecture and endows it with a presence that speaks of futurity. The musical score to the artwork was created specifically for the installation by Harris’ collaborators Kristian and Dougal of North V South. Several major musical movements occur over the 20 minute cycle, with the instrumental score directly driving the computer code responsible for bringing the series of geometric studies to life. The graphical design of the projections was created at Harris’ London based Cinimod Studio. The public art installation was a site specific commission for the Grand Palais by the Art Paris 2015 organisation.

      • Stained Glass "Arboretum" by Dominic Harris

http://dominicharris.com/stained-glass-arboretum/ Stained Glass "Arboretum" By Dominic Harris Produced by Cinimod Studio Since the 10th Century stained glass has been treated as a sophisticated art form, often symbolically depicting romance and religion. Though the fundamentals have remained the same, the medium has a rich visual history of artist experimentation through many different stylistic periods. In “Stained Glass: Arboretum”, artist Dominic Harris brings new life to this aged technique, reimagining what a stained glass window can become when digitally manipulated by the onward gaze of the viewer who in turn becomes an active participant. Whereas stained glass was historically a technique to communicate tales and events, Harris’s artwork conversely reflects this history through its movement and transmutability. As the representation of a fantastical tree structure floats within the artwork, a flurry of foliage grows upon the branches only to soon fall to the ground in a gentle eddy of seasonal colours. The artwork is as technologically advanced as it is conceptually engaging. Comprising a triptych of transparent LCD screens with a highly engineered suspended aluminium frame, the artwork actively interacts with the viewer’s gaze as they move about the piece. Harris’s “Stained Glass” transcends the two dimensional restriction of its traditional counterpart with the image appearing to have real depth, creating illusion to a richness in the scene beyond one’s expectation.

            • Hummingbird by Dominic Harris

http://dominicharris.com/hummingbird-2014/ By Dominic Harris Produced by Cinimod Studio “Hummingbird” is an artwork by Dominic Harris through which his obsession with depicting nature through unique interactive portrayals has resulted in a complex artwork that is striking for its crisp simplicity and visual elegance. The hummingbird is one of the most nimble and agile small birds and is known for the fashion in which it seeks outs nectar from plants whilst hovering. Within “Hummingbird” the flight of this fantastic bird is controlled interactively by the movement of the viewer in front of the artwork. Similar to a Shoji Japanese rice paper screen, whereby a continuously evolving and animated shadow play is visible. Within these shadows a constantly evolving scenery of plants and trees are visible, with the hummingbird darting between various hovering points. The movement of the hummingbird is influenced by the viewer before it. However, in an unexpected twist from a traditional shadow screen, the depth of field in the shadows slides forward and backward, itself tracking the movement of the hummingbird. This provides a mesmerizing yet subtle depth to the two dimensional digital painting. The artwork is presented on a bespoke wide-format 16:4 format display that provides a sharp and highly bright canvas on which the flight of the hummingbird is depicted.

http://cinimodstudio.com/project/emergence/ for Caviar House & Prunier at London Heathrow Terminal 2 designed and produced by Cinimod Studio Caviar House & Prunier is delighted to unveil their mesmerizing "Emergence" lighting sculpture heralding their arrival to their new location at the heart of the new Heathrow Terminal 2’s International Departures Lounge. The art installation is a result of a close collaboration with London-based design team, Cinimod Studio, who undertook the ambitious brief to create a truly unique and innovative eye-catching landmark. The lighting sculpture is named "Emergence", and with playful relevance to Caviar House, captures the re-imagined movement of a school of fish moving underwater. It is a sculptural expression of the fascinating light patterns and shimmers that emerge across the collective bodies of fish as they move in harmony within water whilst reflecting the natural sun light. This is physically manifested as a kinetic moment frozen in space and time, and re-animated through cutting-edge interactive digital lighting. The audacious structure, comprised of LED arcs spiralling thirteen metres up to the ceiling, utilises a transfer of technologies from other industries, borrowing heavily from the engineered carbon fibre composites as found in the newest airplanes. In an expression of sensational form underpinned by exquisite engineering, the sculpture is unique for its form and is a triumph of British design, engineering and production.
