In January 2015 we had the pleasure of working with the Citizens Theatre to create some films for their production of The Slab Boys. We sat down with the original creators of the play, writer/designer John Byrne and director David Hayman to discuss the history of The Slab Boys, the characters and how they are bringing this iconic Scottish play to a new generation of audience for the Citizens Theatre's 70th anniversary. The Slab Boys runs from 12 February – 7 March and then transfers to King’s Theatre, Edinburgh from 10 – 14 March. For more information and to book tickets please visit: citz.co.uk/ urbancroft.co.uk/

Darren offered up an idea to the group and immediately the players seized the opportunity and explored ways to develop a new piece with impressive results. We’ve entitled the piece ‘ Flight’ in keeping with relevant themes within ‘ On Common Ground’ An excellent conclusion to the exciting and promising start of our Orchestra. Thank you so much to all who have taken part so far. We’ve been truly wowed by your talent. The Weekly Monday night sessions at the Citz have now begun with more musicians and instruments coming into the mix.

Based on a true story, Glasgow Girls follows a group of seven teenage girls whose lives are changed forever when they arrive at school one day to be told that one of their friends - and her asylum seeking family - have been forcibly taken from their home to be deported. After the initial shock of this news has worn off, these feisty young women are galvanised to take a stand and to fight for the life of their friend, her family, and, ultimately for the rights of all children of asylum-seekers in Scotland. They take on the Scottish Government and the Home Office and succeed where adults and politicians have failed. Their campaign became one of the most vocal and powerful asylum campaigns to capture the imagination of the media and to inspire a community to unite behind its residents; Glasgow Girls is not just a life-affirming musical, it is their story. A True Story The Glasgow Girls are a group of seven young women who highlighted the poor treatment of refused asylum seekers. The group of girls from Drumchapel High School protested against the detention of one of their friends, Agnesa Murselaj who had fled from war-torn Kosovo. Publicity grew as the girls challenged the First Minister and publicly voiced their concerns as more children at their school were dawn raided, detained and deported. A BBC television documentary has been made of their story. Recommended for age 14+ Presented by the National Theatre of Scotland, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Citizens Theatre, Pachamama Productions, Richard Jordan Productions Ltd in association with Merrigong Theatre Company, Australia Glasgow Girls will run from 20 February until 8 March 2014 at the Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme.

What do a tribe who have been travelling for 18,000 years discover when they meet Glaswegians ‘On Common Ground’? In July 2014, First Nation storytellers from Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve, Manitoulin Island, Canada will travel to Glasgow and create an outdoor performance with 150 community performers. A major participatory event by Debajehmujig Theatre Company and the Citizens Theatre performed as part of the Glasgow 2014 Festival Programme. This is the second video postcard sent to Glaswegians from Manitoulin Island, sharing what life is like through the seasons. Why not send a reply? The Global Savages really want to fit in when they arrive. Please share anything you think they should know about Glasgow - the city, the people, the music, the food, anything!
