A poor farmer and part-time English teacher in Sulawesi, Indonesia, Natsir could never have known that his simple act of kindness for a traveling American student would result in getting his sons Achmad and Winner the cleft surgery that he could never afford. Our Smile Train team could never have guessed how hard Natsir now works to locate other children born with clefts so they too can receive life-changing cleft surgery. Volunteering what little time he can spare, Natsir has already referred over 60 patients to Smile Train.

Dominic, who is 2, was born with Beckwith-Wiedemann Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects 1 in 15,000 births. He has been dependent on a tracheostomy to breathe since he was 3 months old. By sharing our lives, we hope to develop awareness and understanding.
