      • Mia climbing at Extreme Edge, Panmure

        from Stephen Matheson Added 45 0 0

Mia has been climbing on and off since she was 5. In the last year her confidence has grown and she is now tackling the giant 4 storey walls at Extreme Edge in Panmure. For the first time a couple of weekends ago she ventured up a "rated wall" - she must only use grips of one colour - rather than any grip. She chose an entry level blue grip path rated at "15". Entry level by the way is a little misleading. Thankfully Mia has long limbs - not sure how others manage it! Here, the next weekend and armed with a head-mounted GoPro camera she makes the ascent for a second time. There is a tricky bit near the top. Some of the grips are so small and far apart. You can almost see her thinking about her next move as the camera shows you where she looks. Nice work Mia!! Enjoy...

Cleo who is 5 has been climbing for coming up to 3 years. A couple of weekends ago she ventured up one of the main climbing walls at Extreme Edge - these are 4 storeys high. Admittedly she was spurred on by the offer of "anything you want from the icecream chiller", but actually considering how she has reacted to being so high up, till now - I think that she did extremely well. Here, a week later and armed with a head-mounted GoPro camera she makes the ascent one more time. Listening to her sing on the way up tells you that she is SO not stressed by the occasion. She comes to a gnarly bit most of the way up, but in the end makes the correct decision to go on. I think that she is pretty amazing! Go Cleo!! Enjoy...

Are blind people unwanted in our churches, in society, in our everyday lives? While it may easy to say "no," it is difficult to see the need: the desire to live a normal life, the hope of finding real friendships among sighted and blind people, the need to have access to quality, Christian reading materials, and the longing to be understood. unwanted? is the feature presentation for Christian Record's 2013 Annual Day of Giving campaign. For more information and practical tips for befriending a blind person, visit CRSBgift.org.
