Flora a short film by Colleen Hughson and Carmel Wallace music composed and recorded by Michael Wallace Flora played by Ella Eade Portland Victoria Australia 2015 Flora celebrates the richness and fecundity of nature, personified by a young woman wearing a cloak made of flowers. The singular beauty of indigenous species is displaced by seductive mass plantings of exotic flora as introduced by successive boat people to these shores. Whilst we may question this displacement, the film presents the post-colonial view of possible harmonious co-habitation: the bees happily feast on the nectar of both indigenous and introduced flowers, and we as audience also enjoy the extravagant beauty of both.

Peter Read is passionate about Southern Right Whales. Southern Right Cows visit Warrnambool each winter to have their baby calves. The mothers spend 2-3 months developing their babies swimming skills and building their strength until they are ready to undertake their annual migration of up to 5000 KM to Antarctica. For ten years running, Pete spends his whole winters (up to 300 days), watching and tracking the movements and behaviours of whales at Logans Beach, Warrnmabool. He tracks and logs in a book what the whales are doing on the hour, each hour throughout the day. He is a volunteer with Warrnambool Whale Watch but he is pedantic about getting his daily log sheets close to perfect. His passion is contagious! This film features Lyn Faull who is a wildlife resucuer from Mortlake, in South West Victoria. Rescuing mostly kangaroos and wallabies is her life passion, and she devotes all her time and money to it. This video was filmed by two primary school students of St.Coleman's Primary; Imogen and Isla, and was screened as part of the Mortlake Shines event last month. The film production was mentored by Colleen Hughson, who was Artist at Residence at St.Coleman's and helped the students to brain storm film ideas and produce their own short documentaries about local people. At the request of ABC Open, Imogen and Isla were invited to re-edit the film so that it was a bit shorter to fit snuggly into the My Crazy Passion project. With editing assistance from Emily Bissland and some extra animated sequences, the film you see here is the final product of a lot of hard work from the girls and their mentors! Thanks Colleen, Isla and Imogen, not to mention their fantastic teacher Tracy Hicks and most of all, the very dedicated Lyn Faull.

Roo Rescuer What does a wild life carer do? We travelled to Lyn Faull’s house at Derrinallum to interview her about being a wild life carer. She showed us the type of animals that she cares for such as kangaroos and wallabies. She also told us all about their injuries and how hard it is to rehabilitate the animals. We enjoyed going to Lyn’s house and looking at all the animals that she had and listening to the things that she had to say about being a wild life carer. We had great fun!
