        • Canon 6D Tiffen ND Fadar Color Cast

Well I finishing last semester of school and don't have much time for 3D work, but I have a new camera, and I was testing the 77mm Tiffen ND Fadar on it. The lens I'm using is the 24mm - 105mm F4 Kit Lens. Sorry for such a short clip, but to my dismay, the Tiffen really presented a horrible color cast due to not being able to filter out the IR which the sensor in this camera is very sensitive too. What you're seeing here are three quadrants. The top half of the frame is the original plate without the Tiffen Filter. The lower left is with the Tiffen Fadar on (correcting exposure to in camera to match which was about 2 stops via adjusting shutter speed). The lower right is shot matched in Davinci Resolve, which was rather difficult to do. The lower right wipes over resulting in a 50 50 image (top - original bottom - graded). I only adjusted exposure in the luma, and matched the channels to the original plate. The Canon was using cinestyle profile, and i as grading in Log in Resolve. No noise removal, saturation or other Color Correction was done on this, so it will appear flat and lifeless. The blue channel had to be adjusted with minor amounts in the green and red. I was able to get a seamless shot to shot match using my own method because I found nothing on the web to counteract this in Resolve except some shot matching tutorials... but they were sorta amateur really. I would rather not want to do this for every shot in which I had to use the Tiffen Fadar... YUCK! Time consuming and not worth it. I did this mainly to learn color grading and correction. I just did a quick assembly in NukeX. I am going to try the same test with a Canon C100 using the built in ND Filters and see the quality difference I get. The Tiffen Fadar (as well as other brands) will reduce contrast, cause a brownish color cast, and reduce sharpness. This is what I saw on the scopes.
