Nearly 3000 vertical feet of pure awesomeness. The Nose was the original line up El Cap. It is said to be the best rock climb in the world, and after completing it we would have to agree. There are few things better than driving into the Valley in October. You come around that one turn and all focus shifts from the road to El Capitan's West facing walls. Amazing. I pity the fool that stands outside their car on this stretch of road. All attention is paid to the rock, and none to moving vehicles...read the rest of the trip report: www.smileysproject.com Filmed by: Mark Smiley Janelle Smiley Edited by: Mark Smiley Music: Time to Run by Lord Huron We Can Make the World Stop by The Glitch Mob

As we drove north on the Icefield Parkway, after talking to Nancy, the conversation was as lively as a cemetery. It seemed like Janelle had already mentally thrown in the towel. Me, the stubborn one, tried desperately to find the bright side of this dimly lite situation. "Well…at least after climbing the Wishbone, every other route we climb the rest of our lives will be better." Silence. "Just think, we are going to climb the worst route in the Canada, and maybe the world. The worst! That's kinda worthy right?" More silence. Things were not looking good. I resorted to changing the subject to the amazing views unfolding through Lulu's windshield.... ...Read the rest of this trip report at: www.smileysproject.com Filmed by: Janelle Smiley Mark Smiley Reiner Thoni Edited by: Mark Smiley Music: Heartlines - Florence + the Machine Whispers in the Night - Mumford & Sons Belong - R.E.M. Visit the campaign page here, with sweet highlight video http://goo.gl/tvDeJ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We started climbing at 4AM. To save time, we each attached ourselves to a fixed rope with a Petzl Tibloc (a simplified ascending device) to self-belay ourselves. Without a proper belay, we had to be in the mindset that we were basically free soloing the first five pitches. If one of us did fall the Tibloc would bit on the rope, and arrest the fall (hopefully). It was too scary to trust it, so we climbed like we were not going to fall. This 2000 foot climb is truly amazing. From the thousands of miles you have to drive north to the Yukon, to the flight across the NW Territories boarder, landing on a lake, the approach, the campground, the climb itself, its all part of a great experience. www.smileysproject.com Filmed: Mark Smiley Janelle Smiley Edited: Mark Smiley If you are interested in high res photos taken from a helicopter of the entire Cirque of the Unclimbables, please shoot me an email. Visit the campaign page here, with sweet highlight video http://goo.gl/tvDeJ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first of several mixed climbing pitches. M5 is the Supertopo rating. I don’t mix climb that much, so I was nervous. This was evident in the amount of cams I brought….many. Ditching the pack, I racked up and was off. There was a lot of snow covering the rock, which had to be removed. I hooked and pulled my way up little by little. Having a fifi hook was nice when things got cruxy. I would fifi into the highest piece, and start excavating snow and ice to get down to rock, hook my tools onto some stupid-tiny granite crystal the size of a pencil eraser, and pull up to the next placement. Upon reaching the parking lot your attention is grabbed immediately by the site of chicken wire fences around every automobile. The tops of these make-shift fences are held against the cars with three foot tall wooden posts and the bottom is kept against the ground with a softball sized rock every foot. All 35 of the vehicles in the lot were equipped with this accessory, and it looks truly bizarre. A psychology student could write their thesis on what goes through peoples’ minds when they see this scene. Even if you have no clue what purpose chicken wire serves, there is probably a 99% chance that you too will dig through the big bin of bundled wire, provided by the Provincial Park Service free of charge, and take the hour needed make your vehicle look like everyone else’s. I don’t know if the term used would be “group think” or “the power of suggestion”, regardless, everyone follows suit and fortifies their vehicle to mimic the rest.... We had our eyes set on completing #28 of our quest, The Titan via the Finger of Fate route in the Fisher Towers group. At 900 feet tall, the Titan is the largest freestanding sandstone tower in North America. Utah is home to several different types of sandstone, all of which vary in hardness. The majority of the Titan is made of “mudstone”, and as its name implies, it is the softest, and scariest, type of sandstone.... Read the rest of this trip report at: www.smileysproject.com

The heli flight is an efficient way to blow 600 bucks in 29 minutes, but its totally worth it. Like a nature viewing three-ring circus on crack, the varied landscapes flew by. Passing over an inlet, then deep forest, followed by glacier, these views fit the bill for what a Jack London Alaska should be. Read the rest of the trip report at: www.smileysproject.com
