It sounds superficial to suggest doing community service to improve your chances of getting into a professional health school. Most applicants likely want to do it, as it’s in the nature of those called to careers in healthcare to serve others. Current NMSU students can take the quiz and be entered into a drawing for a free Kaplan Test Prep Course! https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NX3YSWV

Nick Vincent, student filmmaker at the University of Utah, started volunteering with Real Food Rising during the growing season of 2013. Compelled to create social change through film, Nick started documenting Real Food Rising’s story to spread the word about urban agriculture in Salt Lake City and their emerging youth farm project. Real Food Rising, a program of Utahns Against Hunger, uses sustainable agriculture to transform the lives of young people and to increase access to healthy food in Salt Lake City. The community service and job-readiness program hires high-school age youth to work on 1 ¼ acres one mile west of downtown and donates 75% of the produce grown on the farm to hunger relief organizations in the county. In 2013 on both their urban farm and through their fruit gleaning project, they harvested 7,600 pounds and donated over 5,300 pounds to hunger relief, getting fresh fruit and vegetables to those in need. As programs expand in 2014 Real Food Rising looks forward to educating more youth in the practice of growing real food and to getting more real food out into the community.
