In October 2012, The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair celebrated it's 5th successful exhibition. Once again located in Spinningfields in the centre of Manchester, the event is renowned for being one of the leading retail events for contemporary craft in the UK, welcoming several thousand visitors over the course of it's three day event. STANDBY PRODUCTIONS Ltd were briefed to create a film that would be sleek and modern, while also capturing the elegant tone of the event. With the focus of the event being to champion craft as a serious artform, while also giving design-makers in the North a platform from which to promote themselves, STANDBY's job was to create a film that helped to fulfill that mission statement. Featuring over 150 selected design-makers in ceramics, glass, jewellery, interior and fashion textiles, wood, print-making and much more, the event was a fantastic success. The GNCCF has managed to position itself as an integral part of Manchester's cultural calendar, and will return once again in 2013. We aren't made to do life alone. We aren't made to do church alone. Most people associate churches with sitting in rows, facing the front. We want to explore an understanding of church and community that is wider and deeper. Where we come out of the rows and into circles - into deeper community - with one another. (A big, big thanks to our good friend Ethan Russell at New Ink Films for all of his help in making this film happen. Check out his work over at https://vimeo.com/newinkfilms).

Several years ago, transportation company Norfolk Southern initiated an expansion of its 47th Street Terminal by covertly buying property in the northeast corner of Englewood. Since the plans were publicized in September 2011, residents have been living on borrowed time, maintaining friendships and traditions while struggling with new problems in their vanishing community. This short is the first piece of a feature-length documentary about the neighborhood and its confrontation with the pressures of contemporary transportation infrastructure. This video is part of a series profiling Chicago businesses, subcultures and landscapes. These short, lyrical documentaries aspire to be art cinema, ethnographies, and experiments in form. David Schalliol is managing editor of Gapers Block and a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Chicago; this project is an outgrowth of his research on social organization and disorganization in urban communities. Dave Nagel is a freelance shooter, editor and sound recordist. Brian Ashby's co-directorial debut, Scrappers, won Best Documentary at the 2010 Chicago Underground Film Festival and made Roger Ebert's top 10 list of documentary films for that year.
