by Dr. Michelle Macera, Assistant Professor of Psychology, Harrisburg Area Community College - York Campus 24 February 2010 This presentation will describe a model orientation course to facilitate advising and career planning. Course topics included choosing a major, job opportunities with a bachelor's degree, applying to graduate school, and guest lectures from professionals in psychology-related careers. Students completed a plan of study, a resume, and a career exploration paper. Students evaluated the course and assignments as being moderately high in value and recommended that the course continue to be required for psychology majors. Nearly all students (93%) either changed their career plans or felt more confident about their plans after taking the course. Recommendations for implementing a similar course will be provided for faculty from all disciplines. Michelle's informative presentation on this excellent advising idea was part of the Spring 2010 Professional Development series held at the York Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College.

by Judith Dutill, Instructor of Communication, Harrisburg Area Community College - York Campus 24 March 2010 Today's student has been singled-out as part of a "plugged-in" tech savvy generation that struggles with speaking articulately. As educators, it is our role to encourage students to improve their ability to coherently share ideas in a variety of contexts. This workshop will address issues of student incoherence and what we, as college educators, can do to solve this problem by expecting oral competency in the classroom. Additionally, this workshop offers instructors with a practical model for incorporating student presentations into their classroom pedagogy regardless of their discipline. Time will be reserved for an open discussion of issues and concerns related to oral competency and articulate speech. Judith's informative interdisciplinary presentation was part of the Spring 2010 Professional Development series held at the York Campus of Harrisburg Area Community College.

This is an alternate version of a 60-second recruitment/promotional video for the Haywood Community College Electronic Engineering Technology program. This version shows the three program areas mentioned as a motion graphic at the beginning of the video and does not show the HCC logo and program title until a few seconds in. This was an attempt to do something a little bit different with this particular video. The official version, chosen by HCC, more closely matches the format of the other program videos.
