During the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, Tangible Interaction was asked to curate the Digital Media Room in the BC Pavilion at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Working with Creative Director, Sara Bailey, we conceived, designed and installed 3 major interactive pieces including a forest of 24 LED Columns and a multi-projector, 52 feet animated mural. Centre stage in the room, three interactive, multi-touch cubes (12 screens) showcased work from BC based digital, games and special effects companies.... Electronic Arts, Rainmaker, Switch Interactive and more. We created own multitouch applications using Open Frameworks and Cocoa. We also used Community Core Vision from the NUI group (an Open Source blob tracking application) More than 5,000 visitors streamed through the BC Pavilion Digital Media Room during the 17 days opening period. Interactive Application that I made with openFrameworks for Rosario´s TechCamp for high schools kids. The main idea is show how to be creative with technology thinking less as a user and more as a hacker. In this case I use my multiTouch TUIO compatible GUI addon named ofxBlackBox ( http://www.patriciogonzalezvivo.com/blog/?p=184 ) for the tool bar. For the tracking I use cheap IR-Dots made from flashlights and ping-pong balls ( http://www.patriciogonzalezvivo.com/blog/?p=5 ) with Community Core Vision app. Download the App for free on http://www.patriciogonzalezvivo.com/blog

On Jan 30th 2010, we hosted AIGA KC's 20th anniversary party, installing an interactive timeline in our space. The timespan featured milestones within the design community over the past 20 years. As the span slowly floated by, guests could draw their own timelines using hand gestures or with their cell phones. This piece used Community Core Vision motion tracking technology in conjunction with Adobe Flash to create the graphics.

music: Take a Day Off by B. Fleischmann Demo video for the multitouch table that we built. The table is built using Rear Diffuse Illumination technique in order to track the blobs and their movements. It consists of two led arrays (total of 225 IR leds), a projector, and a regular webcam that we took the IR filter out. Now, it is a standalone table where people are encouraged to come and use the table to develop their own interactive applications by connecting their laptops to the camera and the projector.

This is a prototype of a DSI (Diffused Surface Illumination) table, built to test some concepts before they get used during Smart Geometry 2011 in Copenhagen. It is using Community Core Vision software that is working in the background, and a Processing application, that loads and displays google map + some simple blocks (buildings). Most likely this will be used to drive more complex routines that will use urban data feeds (for example for various simulations and generative algorithms). ..work in progress..

NOTE: Sorry about the super-shaky handheld footage at the beginning. I'll make sure to stick the Flip video camera on a tripod in the future. ----- This video demonstrates the next module in my personal project called "Flow". It builds on the progress made in my previous Flow video (http://vimeo.com/7399668). Specifically, this highlights the "Flow Receiver" module created in Adobe AIR. This module communicates with CCV (http://ccv.nuigroup.com/) via its built-in OSC->TCP bridge. It receives the generated TUIO 2D Cursor data and stores it in a database for future retrieval. Flow Receiver can also export the data to XML or CSV. Here's what the data flow looks like: 1) Data comes into computer via external DV camera. 2) CCV analyzes the camera image and extracts "blob" data based on a tracked color. 3) The blobs are converted to TUIO 2D Cursor objects and broadcast over UDP and TCP. 4) Flow Receiver receives that data. 5) Flow Receiver communicates via HTTP with a web server running Flow Storage to create projects and store a project's recorded TUIO data. 6) Flow Storage (the web application built with CodeIgniter http://codeigniter.com) stores all data in a local MySQL database for later retrieval. I took the time to describe the "Flow" project in more detail on my blog. Read about it here: http://www.todaycreate.com/2009/12/25/wtf-is-flow

Shuffle Room is an interactive audiovisual installation designed to completely submerge the audience in a rich 360º navigable sonic environment. The piece uses a quadrophonic audio engine and an edge-blending multichannel projection transforming the room into an immersive audiovisual experience where converged mashups of abstract geometric objects and micro sound textures are emitted at high intensity and frequency, while they are also constantly seamlessly coordinated in a coherent whole. Centrally located, a monolith shaped physical object enables the audience to have complete control over their surrounding using said multi-touch interaction device. It invites participation of the audience, and once it receives feedback from an audience member, the whole space awakes with activity, provokes further experimentation by the observer. Their fingertips now become the environment, and the observer becomes a conductor of his own audio visual experience. The exhibition explores the possibilities of a limited space and represents an ever-evolving state of shape and sound where new patterns are constantly emerged and rearranged. It creates dialogue between the audience and the environment exploring modes of interaction and responsiveness, input and output, human intuition and curiosity. Inside the custom built touch reactive interface, a real-time simulation software is situated, making use of various technologies and protocols all routed up in VVVV in conjunction with custom programmed audio engine running in Usine. Participating in this exhibition, the observer is highly empowered to become part of the exhibition, part of the world he is now in charge of manipulating. The sheer spontaneity of interacting and changing such a complete set of multimedia, fully covering the main senses, introduces a specific state of mind that is unique and leaves an imprint with lasting effects. Shuffle Room is developed as a collaborative work between Eduardo H. Obieta (MEX), Rodrigo Guzman C. (MEX) and Saso Puckovski (MKD). What are Tags?

                      Tags

Tags are keywords that describe videos. For example, a video of your Hawaiian vacation might be tagged with "Hawaii," "beach," "surfing," and "sunburn."
