1. GH4 vs D810 vs Atomos Blade

A short video comparing the GH4 and the D810 video both with and without external ProRes recording on the Atomos Blade. Both cameras were shot at f2.8 ISO800 24p in my dingy office. I chose my ridiculous rack of running shoes for its combo of detail and color. All footage was imported into FCPX and proxies were created. Optimized media was created for only the internally recorded H.264 footage. All have minor grading and were then exported into a 1080p timeline.

http://comparedcare.com High medical bills are the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. A primary cause of this is the lack of price and quality transparency in the medical industry. Two providers in Maryland can charge significantly different prices for the same procedure with the same quality of care. Patients typically do not know the cost of a procedure until after they receive the bill. ComparedCare was founded last year with the goal of providing patients the ability to compare the cost of care among providers within the same area. Users may upload / input their medical bill information anonymously (without any PHI or Personally Identifiable Information) into the ComparedCare medical bill repository. Patients can actively search for the cost of a medical procedure within their area for comparison, as well as read physician reviews submitted by patients. It is a one stop shop for medical pricing for patients.

      • Canon 5D Mark II vs Panasonic GH2 quick and dirty comparison

A VERY quick and dirty comparison of the Canon 5D Mark II and Panasonic GH2. The first test gives an idea of perceived detail and depth of field control at wide aperture settings while the second gives a test of resolution with fine detail and deep depth of field. The 5D used the Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens while the GH2 used the Olympus 45mm f/1.8. Both cameras were set to the widely-accepted optimum ISO setting of 160 and used the profiles and settings that I normally use for actual shoots. The 5D picture profile was Marvels Advanced with settings as follows: Sharpness: 0 (minimum) Contrast: -4 (minimum) Saturation: -2 (2 above minimum) Color Tone: 0 (default) ...and the GH2 used the "Smooth" film mode with contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction all at their minimum settings of -2. The GH2 was firmware hacked for high bitrate but only very moderately, using Ralph B's "Sanity 5" patch which I find to be a great balance of high quality, good stability and relatively low memory use.

Since 1990 most of the new members of the Trans Europe Halles network (TEH) of independent cultural centres came from Eastern Europe. At that point there were hardly any members from Eastern and Central European countries; today I‘d say the proportion is something like 60:40, but it’s getting closer to 50:50. In terms of differences and similarities between Western and Eastern Europe, the main difference is that in Western Europe after World War II an infrastructure of cultural policies and cultural funding was put in place. In most countries you thus have 60 years of process that continues today and which has developed quite sophisticated structures and systems of funding. The oldest centre in TEH is 40 years old – so again you have a history and experience of running and managing cultural centres and the appropriate structures; whereas in Eastern Europe everything is much newer. They're catching-up pretty quickly but the biggest difference is that there there was no state or government funding for the independent sector, but hat is starting to change. Further, there was no tradition of the independent sector and I guess that's starting to change as well. In the Eastern European countries the government structures tend to be more institutionalised, more traditional and less open to new ideas and change.

Just messing around in maya with some settings. This test was done more to just have one of the comparison tests on vimeo than to actually compare the smoke. Most of it's at default settings but what I did change I'll list below: 10x20x10 (scale) 150 square resolution High detail solve (all fields) self shadow Emitters only emit smoke (fuel and temperature have been disabled) Density: 1 Dissipation: .2 And of course I changed the swirl amount under velocity. Rendered with Mental Ray Lastly it was composited in AE with some color correction, blur, sharpening, and grain. It's not meant to be beautiful smoke, it's just to get the motion visually appealing and I feel it works.
