          This experimental portrait of New York City was made a few years BEFORE 9/11. In retrospect, it seems strangely prophetic, an elegiac tone poem to Manhattan. The ending scenes of the downtown financial district (much of which is now gone) have an austere, tomb-like quality which presage the tragic events that would bring about the end of an era. Patriotic vows of a comeback notwithstanding, New York and in turn the US would never be the same again. Richard Geere composed and performed the atmospheric, era-appropriate score.
