It didn’t snow in Tahoe for almost the entire month of January. Out of curiosity and boredom Corey Smith decided to attempt to build some handmade snowboards. He was interested in long boarding style in surfing and exploring similar concepts on snow. He wanted to deconstruct contemporary snowboarding down to its simplest element and find beauty in simply turning. "I’ve always wanted to explore and experiment with snowboarding as a physical outlet of creativity," states Smith. So he ended up building some experimental snowboards. When it finally did snow record amounts in Tahoe he was glad it did. These boards provided a completely unique snowboarding experience and opened up a world of terrain previously inaccessible on traditional snowboards. Some of the boards were incredibly functional and some were purely conceptual. All the boards also serve as one of kind pieces of functional artwork. "Building and riding these boards has been one of the most best experiences I’ve had snowboarding." - Corey Smith www.springbreaksnowboards.com Filmed and Edited by Kevin Castanheira Additional video footage by Ryan Scardigli Music: Jeans Wilder "International Waters" Margo Guryan "Take a Picture"

Spring Break Snowboards were conceived as a vacation from conventional board design where the looser the shape of the deck and more uncommon the ingredients translates to more flavor being brought to the party. Corey Smith is the mad scientist behind Spring Break and each handmade creation is a study in abstract descent theory. Check out this documentation of the latest Spring Break test expedition from Mt. Winter dried up in Tahoe so we scraped our pennies together and headed north to Mt. Baker. We met up with some old friends Lucas and Jesse Huffman as well as the lovely Laura Hadar. Spring Break, Powderjet, and TJ Brand powder boards were ripped. Spring Breakers, Eric Messier, Corey Smith, Ben Rice, Ty Walker, Alex Ozman Scott, Ryan Fagan, Maxwell Carl Scott, Nick Greeve, and Henrik Mikkelsgård scored enough tropical turns and white rooms to keep them smiling all the way home. Thanks to Sasquatch Lodge for putting us up & Blue Montgomery for the epic Air Time sail adventure. Mt. Baker never disappoints. Enjoy the Warp Wave! -Corey Smith

The Looking Sideways art show opened last night at the Vans Wängl Tängl Presented by G-Shock in Mayrhofen, Austria. A couple of hundred party-goers and art fans checked out works on display by Fos, French, Blaise Rosenthal, Ed Templeton, Tristan Huber, Corey Smith, Schoph, Danny Wainwright, Danny Larsen and Tim Karpinski. "It's been great to be part of a show that brings together such a strong line-up of artists and it's pretty amazing to see everyone's different styles", said artist Schoph, who used the occasion to premiere a new work called Dead Questions in the Eyes. "I've been in plenty of shows now but the Looking Sideways crew have definitely raised the bar in terms of the space and the quality of the work". Other highlights at the show included a huge 6' by 4' illustration by skater and artist French, which dominated the gallery in Mayrhofen's Europahaus, and the start of a huge live art piece by Looking Sideways art director Owen Tozer. It's being created using images sent in by members of the public, who were invited to contribute to the project by uploading images of their eyes looking sideways to the LS Facebook page, or by emailing them to eyes@wearelookingsideways.com. The final piece will be used to create the graphics for an exclusive run of limited edition Looking Sideways x Endeavor x Vans Wängl Tängl snowboards, with the winners of the boards chosen from those who contributed images. Tozer and some of the artists in attendance at the show will be working on the piece on site at the Europahaus throughout the week, so members of the public have until Friday 23rd March to send in their eyes and have a chance of winning one of the boards.
