On July 6th I filmed Mr. Ken Hunley , local poet of Red Deer for a legacy video for his family members. I filmed Mr. Hunley with my 5D Mark II , EF 24-70 f2.8L (set to f9.1) ND fader stop down 20%, ISO 100 . Magic Lantern 14bit Raw Video MLV v2.0 , Feb16th NB build @ 1856x928 , 23.976p + audio. This was my first full project with the New Apple ProRes 4444 XQ codec & the Final Cut Pro X 10.1.2 I find the New Codec very nice to work with , and at 16bit Liner with Alpha it retains all of the information . I'm seeing bitrates of about 425 Mb/s where as with just ProRes4444 codec it would max out about 260MB/s at 23.976 fps. Where I notice the greatest gains where in the high-lights & low-lights NO Clipping since with the XQ is Liner and the 4444 is in Rec709. Plus there was a big performance increase with XQ in FCPX no need to go to proxies on a single stream with heavy grade. I used Adobe After Effects cc to make my Video file from Cdng's , As there is nothing Better then the ACR plugin for Magic Lantern Raw/Cdng's . But the New Apple Codec is not available for Adobe as it is only had though Final Cut Pro X , Motion & Compressor. So I have to Hack FCPX and copy the codec in to my QT folder so Adobe Programs could see it and encode with it. That's the only way at the moment I know of . So I basically pregraded the files in A.E. "Cook the Look" then edited in FCPX . In my opinion you can archive you magic lantern raw file to ProRes 4444 XQ for storage , and save on hard drive space if needed it's that Good ! And of course you can just convert to the liner 16bit color space though Apple Compressor or Motion with out pregrade .

A fun little spot for a Portland Barbecue Chain. My principal really is a 'Cowboy Poet', and the extras in the crowd are all members of the Eagle Point Grange Hall, where we shot this commercial. Sometimes reality gives you the best cast you could ask for. 35mm Film.
