Project is taking inspiration from sediment layers and from effects of erosive processes in nature as well as from traditional shoe making techniques. Special construction method has been developed and used across the collection. Multiple layers of leather scrap pieces are added on the last and subsequently sanded down to achieve the final shape and unique colour pattern of the shoe. Colour scheme is influenced by old geological maps. Design and Concept: www.barboravesela.com

Over the last 8 months, I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to document the inspiring talent of Los Angeles artist, Dave Lefner. I’ve always enjoyed the visceral quality of his work, but now have a very fond appreciation for this incredibly passionate, dedicated and humble artisan. Dave chooses the rarely used medium of reduction linocuts to express his love for the City of Angels as well as preserve the history of it’s ever changing urban landscape. Whether it’s found in the extreme shadows cast from a broken neon sign at midday or in the intricate web of power lines crisscrossed overhead, Los Angeles provides him the perfect inspiration for his detailed linoleum block prints. If you enjoy the short documentary, please pass it on. Who we are is intrinsically connected to what we do and the things we build. So what does a lifetime of making things look like? The Makers of Things - a short film collection by Anne Hollowday - documents the work and workshops of the Society for Model and Experimental Engineers, a sprawling organisation with members all over the world. Their common tools and methods mask a huge array of interests and skills, from experimental tinkerers to woodworkers and librarians, all brought together under the roof of their South London headquarters. The Woodworker Norman Billingham's workshop has been pulled up around him over a lifetime. Chippings, clippings and filings fill a garage used to transform lumps of wood into beautiful pens and functional furniture. Although a scientist by training, Norman is the first to admit he's always been a maker of things. See the remaining three films in the collection here: http://themakersofthings.co.uk/

This piece shows the process of worms being transformed into silk, giving up their lives for the fabrics we cherish. This process looks so ancient yet still goes on in many places around the world today. It takes them forever to handcraft each scarf and pillowcase. I'm sure technology will eventually make this process obsolete so I wanted to capture it while it still exists. It's quite beautiful and poetic actually. These women work day in and day out, pouring their love and life into their creations... Perhaps, at times, daydreaming of a different life. View more of our work at http://www.skyboxcreative.com
