Ecocide - A Crime Against Peace and Humanity End Ecocide - To achieve that, severe cases of environmental destruction should be recognized as crime for which those responsible can be held accountable. This crime has a name: Ecocide. THE ECONOMICS OF ECOSYSTEMS AND BIODIVERSITY www.pvguide.org Human well-being is dependent upon "ecosystem services" provided by nature for free. Such services include water provision, air purification, fisheries, timber production and nutrient cycling to name a few. These are predominantly public goods with no markets and no prices, so their loss often is not detected by our current economic incentive system and can thus continues unabated. A variety of pressures resulting from population growth, changing diets, urbanisation, climate change and many other factors is causing biodiversity to decline. As a result, ecosystems are continuously being degraded. The world’s poor are most at risk from the continuing loss of biodiversity, as they are the ones that are most reliant on the ecosystem services that are being degraded.

The Ba’ath party, led by Saddam Hussein, killed 182.000 Iraqi Kurds and buried them all in mass graves in 1988. Among all, only thirteen people could get out the mass graves and survive. This is the story of 5 of those survivors. It is said that right after launching the Iraq-Iran war, Saddam on the other hand, also waged a massive attack on Iraqi Kurds and the villages of Kurdistan. This was in spite of Kurds having made the decision to acquiesce to the Ba’athist regime. Many Kurds decided to live the country towards Syria or Turkey just to avoid Saddam’s purging inquisition. But many were rounded up by military forces on the way. Villages were surrounded and after the villages’ elders managed to secure a parole promise, they let the guards down and the military units entered. What followed, and what is depicted in this documentary, is a harrowing story accounted for after many years by these few survivors, mothers and wives who were spared. PRESS TV Documentaries

Following WW2 a series of tribunals were held by the victorious Allied forces. These trials were aimed at prosecuting high ranking Nazi Party officials on accounts of war crimes, crimes against peace and crimes against humanity. The Nuremberg Trials had left an immense impact on International Law. Later the Nuremberg Principals were set as a bench mark for defining war crimes by the United Nations International Law Commission in 1950. But are these overarching principles were merely set to charge the crimes committed by the Nazis and not the victorious powers? Can they still be called upon to try the modern day war criminals? There are widespread reports of torture, massive loss of civilian lives, and destruction of infrastructure and looting of wealth in post-US-invasion Iraq only; not to mention the fact the US-lead war was not sanctioned by the UN. Are America and its allies above the law? In Chronicles of a Crime we witness US sanctimonious approach towards International Laws and Community while committing unspeakable crimes in the name of liberation and freedom in Iraq. Experts’ interviews help the viewers realized what it means to be the one who has written the law itself to be implemented against others and not one’s self. PRESS TV Documentaries

“Being the only country in the world without defined borders… Israel has a grand plan for the Middle East: To destabilize the countries in the region, to break them down into sectarian regions and to foment civil wars … and to go as far as the Tigris and Euphrates.” Says Judith Weisman, the founder of many anti-Israeli organizations. Being born and brought up in a Zionist Jewish family, Judith Weisman came into the realization that Israeli Zionism is the worst thing that has happened to Judaism and humanity in general. For many decades now, this Toronto-based psychotherapist has dedicated her life into defending the rights of the Palestinians and opposing wars against them as well as those waged in the region by the US and Israeli administrations. She opposes war and this is her cause. PRESS TV Documentaries
