Why Transfer Stories? The majority of college students nationwide are now considered transfer students. As students transfer between colleges, they experience unique transitions that affect their school experiences, often creating rich and unique local college stories. Transfer students at CUNY and at John Jay travel with rich stories of transition, grit, perseverance, learning, loving, winning, and losing. Through this performance, we want to showcase who our transfers are, what experiences they bring, and inspire our John Jay community with their stories. Storytelling with Narativ Transfer Star Stories was designed to highlight and publicize powerful transfer student stories. We also wanted to provide our participants new skills training in oral presentation and performance, essential skills for college students readying for graduation. With these aims in mind, we enlisted the training of Narativ Inc. Narativ helps people of different backgrounds, parts of the world, or from different factions within the same community to retell their stories for better outcomes and to create a shared and sustainable future.
