The Jazz Bakery Movable Feast was proud to present Curtis Stigers and his quintet at the Kirk Douglas Theater on the 13th of January 2013. Whether it's a standard, a rarely heard tune from the American Song Book, or one of his own fine compositions, Curtis Stigers puts his own personal stamp on it and makes it his own. As he has done with this wonderful Randy Newman composition dating back to the 80's. This particular song features Curtis as a singer and is backed by piano and trumpet. He is also a fine saxophonist and guitarist. Thank you Ruth Price for bringing us such talented and unique artists. Bob Barry (c)2013 by Bob Barry

In what is jazz vocalist and saxophonist Curtis Stigers’s latest release “Let’s Go Out Tonight,” he took a slight departure from recording songs from the great American songbook and jazz standards and recorded some of the most contemporary songs ranging in the blues, soul, and rock idiom. Curtis covers music by Eddie Floyd, Bob Dylan, Jeff Tweedy, David Poe, and Richard Thompson. The Concord Records release is Curtis’s seventh recording and was produced by the legendary Larry Klein who produced the Grammy-Award winning jazz recording “River: The Joni Letters” by Herbie Hancock. In a career that spans some 25 years Mr. Stigers musical career began in his hometown of Boise, Idaho. He started learning the clarinet then advanced to the tenor saxophone as a teenager. It was his chance meeting with legendary pianist Gene Harris of the 3 Sounds that he began a relationship that lasted up until his death. Harris mentored and inspired a young Curtis to sing and thats what he did! Upon graduation Curtis moved to New York City and moved right into his musical career playing and singing in jazz clubs during the late 1980’s. He grabbed the attention of record executive Clive Davis was signed to Arista Records. He released his debut self-titled in 1991 and was a critical commercial and world-wide success. After a couple of pop releases Curtis decided to come back to his musical roots, jazz music, and hasn’t looked back ever since. Over the last seven recordings Curtis has dived in the world of recording and performing standards from the jazz world and now rock and soul music. Over the last five seasons you’ve heard Curtis sing the theme song for the hit FX series “Sons of Anarchy” that he co-wrote with Bob Thiele, Jr. He’s also performed live songs on the show. Grammy winning producer and musician Kipper has worked with Sting, James Morrison, Stevie Wonder, Mary J Blige and a lot more. Being a longtime Melodyne user, he loves how he can rely on the software as a safety net when recording: "Going down a third or tuning a guitar later doesn't change the quality and the honestness of the recording. That's why Melodyne is so amazing to me." More Melodyne videos: http://www.celemony.com/id/videos
