Made in England is a book by frame builders, about frame builders. It takes a unique look at the world of bespoke frame building by showcasing the artisans in England who craft these bicycle frames. The authors, Matthew Sowter and Ricky Feather, travelled around the country along with talented photographer Kayti Peschke, to interview the people who are leading this industry. Each artisan shares their methods, their passion, their skills and their quirks. Through these intimate conversations they express what makes them unique in this international art. The book showcases exquisite photography of the frame builders and their working environment, contrasting the raw, rough workshops with sleek images of the beautifully finished final products. Kayti Peschke, is responsible for putting this film together Follow the progress of the book on www.facebook.com/madeinenglandbook The book will be for sale summer 2012

Digital media capture + development by steerdigitalmedia.com The bikes that I make under my name are intended to push the limits of my craftsmanship and my vision of the true integrated bicycle. I’m trying to take my work to new levels where I can explore new technologies while still adhering to a classic aesthetic. I try to get to this new level by seeing the bike as a whole before making the first file stroke. With that mental image, I can then start the design and pay attention to the details during the build. I love the details. The details show that care, thought, and consideration went into every aspect of the frame and its components. I am focusing on mostly commuter and light touring bikes right now. Riding along the back roads of Rhode Island and socializing with my friends is the essence of cycling to me. The bike is the vehicle that gets me to that feeling and it’s the thing I don’t want to be concerned about when I’m bombing down a bumpy old road. But it’s also the thing I will look at and appreciate when it comes time to take a break. —Brian Chapman

This is what a very typical day in the shop looks like for Mitch of MAP Bicycles and myself. He is working on some front racks, and I'm working on a fork and racks. It's really good to be able to talk through ideas with someone else, and I think we do a pretty good job of helping each other figure things out. We both have our stylistic differences, obviously, but there are often several ways to approach a problem, and to get insight into it, I think, makes each of us a little bit better at what we do. I've come to value that shared insight.
