      Klänge und Bewegung gehen seit Menschengedenken einher. Eine akustische Wahrnehmung löst ein bestimmtes Verhalten aus und eine Bewegung führt zur Erzeugung von Schallwellen. Dabei entwickeln diese beiden Pole ein Wechselspiel aus Aktion und Reaktion. Beides hängt von einander ab und lässt sich unter dem Begriff der Rhythmik vereinen. Es bestehen also Wechselwirkungen, doch was macht diese aus? Sie sind entweder vorgegeben oder entstehen spontan aus temporären Gefühlslagen. Jede unserer Bewegungen ist einzigartig und doch ähneln sie sich in unseren Bewegungsabläufen und -mustern. Unsere Emotionen spiegeln sich in unserer Bewegung wider. Was bewegt Dich und welche Auswirkung hat Deine Körpersprache auf Deine Umwelt und Dich selbst? Bewegst Du Dich frei, oder konform mit unserer Umwelt? Sagt Deine Gestik etwas über Dich aus oder ist sie nur eine Reaktion auf das, was Dir gerade widerfährt? Diese Arbeit stellt eine medienkünstlerische Interpretation dar, diese Fragen zu einem individuellen Erlebnis zu formen. Die daraus resultierende Rauminstallation ist als Performance-Tool und experimentelles Klanginstrument genießbar und soll dabei helfen, unsere selbst auferlegten Bewegungshürden zu überwinden.

En la gran mayoria de conciertos el publico es simplemente un espectador, lo que busco en esta ocación es la participacion de los asistentes incluyendolos activamente en el proceso. Para armar el patch se uso un objeto cv.jit de Jean-Marc Pelletier.

          • CruftFest 2011 - Using Face Tracking to Draw on an Etch-a-Sketch

            The piece of cruft that I decided to repurpose for this project was an Etch-a-Sketch. My intention was to allow a user to control the drawing process on the Etch-a-Sketch just by moving the position of their head/face. The hardware that I used was an Arduino Uno, two stepper motor driver carriers, and two stepper motors that were mounted onto the Etch-a-Sketch in place of the drawing wheels. I wrote a patch in Max/MSP/Jitter that allowed the user to draw on the Etch-a-Sketch by changing their location in front of a camera. I used face tracking from Jean-Marc Pelletier's cv.jit library to track the position of the user's face which then sent messages to the motors, informing them which direction to draw in. This project was done in the Interactive Digital Multimedia Techniques Course (part of the Media & Arts Technology PhD Programme) at Queen Mary, University of London.

                This video shows the first prototype of '' intonacolori ", a project I did for an exam a few years ago. The aim is to create a sonification of colors seen by the webcam.                       Apologies for the low quality. Internet was being LAME. Right, So here was my mid year exam project for my Digital Arts Honours course! First semester was in interactivity! The turret itself isn't very pretty, I'd love to make a more convincing one when I find the time... Problem is I focused more on the coding! She has three modes: Sentry, Chatter and Sing. Sentry mode enables her to act like she would in the game, sans the ability to shoot you... She reacts to motion in front of her, choosing a random line from the game appropriate to the action ("There you are" "I see you" "Preparing to dispense product"). If there is no movement in front of her for a given amount of time she then picks random expressions from the game once again ("Shutting down" "Sleep mode activated" "I don't hate you"). If you were to manage to sneak up on her and make a loud noise near her she will exclaim as the game versions do when you pick then up (""Hey!" "Illegal operation!" "Uh-oh!"). All in all there are about 15 responses per an operation. Chatter mode allows you to click "Target Sighted" "Target Lost" or "Illegal Operation", playing a random clip from one of those three categories. Finally, Sing Mode will make her sing the famous song from the game, "Still Alive". The code was written in Max 5 using the cv.jit add-on to enable the motion tracking (Go Google it!). The sound and dialogue was found online, as was the song "Still Alive". The song used in this video was found on the Portal 2 website as part of the Portal 2 soundtrack (Again, go Google it!) Built into her is a cheap Logitech webcam/mic combo and a cheap pair of USB powered speakers.
