So, this is not easy....this isn't a dive i'm peticularly proud of. The day before the dive i had gone on Facebook, bragging about how this dive could secure me the 3rd place in the Nordic Championship, and then Nemesis striked hard !.... I'm posting it here, because we can have a good discussion on how to avoid Blackouts, samba and the like... The day before this dive i had an absolutely paradisic No-Fins dive to 43 m. It was a dive where everything fell into place: on the way up, from 43 to 20m i thought " OK, this is going to be tough". And then, suddenly; i felt this warm, fuzzy feeling inside, all hardship disappeared, and i floated to the surface with a big smile on my face. Fantastic. With that in mind, i set my Announced Performance at 66m. Last year, i dove to 60 m, and 4 days before i dove to 51m, so i thought 66m wouldn't be far off. Seems it was. From now on, i will progress in smaller steps. If i should list one more error, besides announcing too deep, i think it's the breathe-up. I am quite sure that i hyperventilated slightly, both in my breathe-up routine, and also the last 2 breaths before packing, they were quite shallow and fast (fast, compared to my normal breathe-up, breathe in during 7 seconds, out during 14) I was trying to avoid contractions on the way down, by (very slightly) washing out CO2 before the dive. Stupid. You see the result in the video. The dive was good; in the ascent, i quickly got into a good rhythm, long strokes, good relaxation. I think i fell a bit asleep, i was a bit too relaxed. So relaxed and away from it all, that suddenly the surface came as a total surprise (deep safety met me at 40m, so that electric scooter was a bit of a drone sound to me as well) As you see from the video i was too hypoxic to correctly go through the surface protocol, i even let go of the rope. Rules are strict: keep airways out of the water, so i got a red card. Another possible mistake: i don't think i made the correct hook breaths, when i came up. i can see from the video, that i start by taking off my goggles, even before hooking. Big mistake. ALWAYS do 3 hook breaths before your surface protocol, make it a habit. there's plenty of time, and the surface protocol can be done in 2 seconds, if you are in control. So! -i hope that this video can perhaps teach some of you the do's and don'ts of competitive freediving. I know that I got wiser....-Jonathan Sunnex said it: it's the bad dives you learn from. Clever man. The next dive, next day, was my 62 dive. i posted it earlier. There, I made sure to not over-breathe, and thereby strengthening the dive reflex and preserving oxygen. That made the dive a bit harder, but I was sharp, when i came up.

This particular dive was special to me. First of all; it's a Personal Best. Second: i had a sort of daydream before the dive, that i would try to dive without goggles or mask for the first time. later on, i thought that it would be stupid to change my usual style in the middle of a cpmoetition. So when i arrived at the dive center, i found out that i had forgotten both noseclip and fluid goggles. Thus, my subconscious probably wanted me to dive bare-faced..... I managed to borrow a nose clip, but another brand than i'm used to. 5 minutes before the dive, I was still wondering whether i would have to use my hand for equalizing..... All stress put aside, i managed to have a really nice dive, which is what i will remember the next time something goes wrong. I had planned for the dive to become somewhat harder than my former dives; I tried to limit my breathe-up, so that i would get contractions earlier in the dive. This helped me stay sharp on the way up, and this is definitely something i'll think about again.
