Fergal McCarthy is an artist, living in Dublin.  Soon after moving to Dublin Fergal developed a fascination with the river Liffey, which flows through Dublin's city centre. During the 2008 economic meltdown, Fergal's art project Liffeytown, comprising lifesize Monopoly houses floating on the Liffey, received worldwide attention, as it was seen to symbolize the state of the Irish economy. In another project, Fergal constructed a small island in the Liffey and lived there for a week. We went for a cycle with Fergal along the Liffey to discuss his newest idea: turning the Liffey Quays into a park, thereby replacing the current six lane motorway by a 'Ribbon of Green'. For more about Fergal’s work see his website (www.fergalmccarthy.blogspot.ie) The above video has English subtitles available for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, just click the ‘CC’ button on the video player. Job Cohen is a Dutch politician. From 2001 - 2010, he was the mayor of Amsterdam, and its citizens endearingly call him 'Job'. Job became the first public official to wed same-sex couples. Time Magazine awarded him the title "European Hero" in 2005, for his inclusive approach towards ethnic minorities in the city. Job prefers to cycle to meetings; and we got to cycle along for a while and have a chat with him.
