And so, here it ends. This is what I made out of four hours of footage from Darren Doane's "Month of Sunrises" challenge. And what a great challenge it was! I was able to see God's gifts in a more amazing way then I have been able to in a long time. There were times when the clouds veiled the sun, and so I... well, I had to improvise. The Lord certainly did test my creativity. Comments and criticism are very welcome! Anything that helps me grow in this area is appreciated.

Issued as a challenge by Darren Doane of Level4 Media (vimeo.com/6610026) as a gut check to film makers. I took the challenge up. Realizing that there were 42 days left in 2009, I thought it would be a neat project filming the last 40, the number often being a Biblically significant one. Thus marked a journey of cold mornings, hunting shots and often trying dodge fog, snow, and sub zero temperatures. The first day I was in Moscow and we got dumped with nearly 5 inches of snow that night. Probably within hours of sunrise. This is the sort of challenge that one faces when filming sunrises in the winter in the NW. Among other things, while doing other filming this month, I found that my camera would shut down if too cold (one particularly cold day at -14, it stopped working, fortunately for a personal project and not for the sunrise project). I tried using handwarmers, but at sub zero temperatures, I found they too would freeze within minutes. So I removed the back seat from my vehicle and filmed out of there for a majority of the mornings. An added challenge at the beginning of the shooting was my travel plans. While location hunting was more difficult, I find it to be a blessing with the amazing shots I was able to get. Mid filming with fog, day after day, was extremely tough endurance-wise, but looking at the finished product, they provide some unique and beautiful video. In the end, it wasn't necessarily about the finished product, but it was a gut check, asking myself, what I was capable of, what would I do to get the shot. I don't know if the finished product will ever be as meaningful to anyone else as it is to me. I hope that I can someday look back at this project and see how far I have come since here. I have left the video raw and untouched aside from the speed applied (because no one would sit here and watch 40 hours of video and if you would, you probably need to find something better to do). Thanks to those who went out mornings with me: Brian Buck, Jon Tollefson, David Hoos, Jared Zwanziger, Karl Zwanziger as well as those who encouraged in the post dawn hours. Shot on JVC GZ-HD7. Edited on Adobe Premiere Trial and WMM Music: "Elegy" by Becoming the Archetype Camera Operation: Luke Zwanziger (Note: due to vimeo upload problems, this is my buggy version 0.9 (misspellings and bad video on Day 8). Once issues get sorted, I will replace it with the final product Lord willing)

WINNER: 2012 SILVER TELLY AWARD: Internet/Online Video - Nature/Wildlife WINNER: 2012 BRONZE TELLY AWARD: Internet/Online Video - Religion/Spirituality when my roommate passed along a link containing a talk by a filmmaker regarding hard work and dedication to film, i was struck by what he challenged us to do. the challenge was to go out and shoot a whole month of sunrises in a row and put them together in a video. we both heard the talk on september 30th and the next month was already set. too many times we forget that with passion comes dedication and hard work. what we learned is that it's often in these small moments of beauty, that we are able to peek into the glory of an amazing God. song: "Phos Hilaron (Hail Gladdening Light)" by David Crowder Band check out the making of: http://vimeo.com/7619654
