Creativity, innovation and ideas are of a fluid matter, adaptable and flexible upon change, like a good friend once said ”Water can crash or it can flow” something similar works with creativity. It is for this reason that for this 2014 Laus awards edition we want to convert each of the public’s vote in a drop of prize. If you want to participate you only have to tweet using the hashtag #OhlaLaus and the number of the corresponding piece you prefer with two asterisks. (For example #OhlaLaus *15*). The pieces and their respective number can be seen on this Pinterest board . Each drop will fill up an individual test tube based on the number of votes, the winning piece of this 2014 edition will be revealed visually to the public.

    • Open Capture at the Rubin Museum of Art

      from Brian House / Added

The gesture of data is a performance that transduces the everyday into the schematized — an exchange of time for space. Open Capture samples from the visitors to the Rubin in order to sound out the museum's architecture, shaping a data center of sorts. The momentary disruptions of its clicks break our continuous conversations into the discrete, and we're confronted not only with the physical reverberations of the data space, but with the strange authority and/or subordination that is the observant bodies of the samplers.

          • Eyeo 2014 - Burak Arikan

            from Eyeo Festival // INST-INT / Added

Critical Network Mapping – By experience, we do have the sense that it is networks where power resides and circulates. Yet, we end up failing as active agents, who, hands on, have the means of criticizing complex networks. Arikan's talk will discuss this issue through his recent work, starting from MyPocket (2008) raising questions on the predictability of everyday living; discussing the invisible power dynamics within the contemporary art ecosystem with Artist Collector Network (2011-); traversing the visual language of official tourism commercials with Monovacation (2013); finally narrating a selection of network maps collectively created on Graph Commons, platform for collaborative network mapping and a knowledge base of relationships that Arikan has been maintaining since 2011. || @arikan || @eyeofestival

This is the second video in the Predictive Policing series. The data for this video were sourced from krimelabb.com. This data is then feed into a complex predictive policing model that I built which uses precursor crimes, geolocation, concentric circle, etc along with an advanced affinity model to predict the location and time of future felonies based on prior misdemeanors. The output of this data mining drives the video.
